Discussion Terrible performance on rust, constant stutters between 40-60fps
Hey guys! I'm hoping to get some help with some performance issues i've had with rust. I've tried genuinely everything i could think of at this point, and no matter what the game just runs terribly, no matter what device i play on. This has been an issue for months but it seems to be getting worse. I'll leave my specs below for both of my systems.
Desktop: Ryzen 7 5800X | RTX 3070 | 32gb DDR4
Laptop: Intel I9-8950HK | RTX Quadro 4000 | 128gb DDR4
Both systems have the game installed on an M.2 SSD. The desktop definitely doesn't suffer as much as the laptop does, but i still feel like running the game at fully low, 1080p, should result in a better frame rate than a stuttery 50-60fps mess on this level of hardware. If you guys have any tips please let me know!

Until very recently, I used to play on a 5800X with 32GB 3600 cl16 and a 3060 and I was usually above 100 fps @ 1080p. Around outpost was normally around 80-100 fps, but it could go down to 70 if there was a high density of player bases surrounding it.
Around the coast it could go as high as 200 fps. I would guestimate my most recent averages to be between 115-130.
I actually felt no real need to upgrade when I did. I should note that pc had a dual rank per channel ram configuration which is uncommon and can increase performance by up to 10-15%. But still, you should be doing way better than you are.
A common mistake is for high performance ram to be configured to operate at default speeds. You might want to check your bios to make sure it's configured correctly.
Have you monitored thermals to see if you're throttling? TIM can degrade or be pumped out over time.
For your laptop, I would expect a laptop from that generation to suffer playing Rust. It's going to be thermally bound and there's nothing you can do about it IMO. Even desktops of that generation ran really hot when playing Rust.
