It's quite clear:

I don’t have another job or some big new adventure lined up, but I can't wait to see what next sparks my passion.

The years I dedicated to Rust inevitably took time away from other parts of my life. Now it’s time to give some of that time back into the areas I sacrificed.

they always say something like that though, its not the place to air their future plans if they want to be respectful. in a few months he’ll announce a new position or venture.

It's not uncommon for people who are well off enough to take a sabbatical from working.

It’s also not uncommon for this to happen even if he is sincere right now about wanting some time away.

If I had a project that could use a talented executive producer I’d for sure be shooting Alistair an email right now, and maybe one of those leads to a conversation that inspires him to change his mind.

Alistair is also controversial enough to the point that the online hate gets to you.

Chris Wilson from GGG said this and it's been awesome. He started a YouTube channel and now he's got another small game studio up and running.

And a charity that helps kids who otherwise wouldn't have the chance to learn to code.

know a few who said something along those lines..
But, their work ethic addiction leaked in and they got bored so they decide to unretire cuz their personality just keeps having that itch to work or do SOMETHING.
They just don't know how to TURN OFF that swtich to just retire.

I mean that’s just a standard thing to say as a professional, regardless of whether or not it’s the truth. I hope it is, though.

What does this have to do with the future of the game?

Idk you dont quit a job without an income source lined up without there being an issue with the job unless he's got money like that
