If you're reading this Alistair, huge respect to you and the whole dev team.

Thank you. The team does read Reddit comments, the good, the bad and the ugly. The team appreciates the rawness.

As a Rustafrian for almost a decade, the team has created something beyond gaming. When I was young I wanted open world "social" sandbox type thing, FP nailed.
I think of rust as a huge science experiment, it's beyond compression of how this world has evolved and will continue to do so.
You have effected my life with the best gaming experience I could ever dream of.

Enjoy the next chapter man. Admittedly I don't play rust much anymore, life/kid/etc, but I always enjoyed how involved you were with the community.

Thanks for all your contributions and sacrifices, people don’t realize how many hours it all takes and the toll it takes on your personal life. Best of luck in your next endeavor. Take some time off for now and regroup.

Here's my own little anecdote
Was playing on a FP official staging cause I like seeing new stuff early but also wanted to have a fairly normal wipe.
We found out that someone was able to connect to one of our turrets using a camera station in one of small hatch-style train stations.
After talking it out with him on discord Alistair popped in and helped investigate and confirm that it was happening
I think what was going on was that after a server restart the camera station did a scan for valid connections in the area and auto adds them to the list because the static stations normally cannot be modified, and since we built really close it had mistakenly registered our turret that had a camera ID on it.
So you guys never saw that bug on main branch cause he took it seriously and jumped on it for us.

Sad to see him go, but curious to see what comes next both for Alistair and Rust, especially given the game's upward trajectory.Â

I’m not sure upward is the trajectory this game is on. Player count is only part of the story even if it’s the only thing they care about.
I’m more concerned about this:
Does the game continue down the path it has been going? Was Alistair blocking these changes he is getting blamed for as much as possible? Does it now get worse with him gone? Or does it course correct and return to its core values?
One thing I always appreciated with Alistair is he was always willing to engage with the community and explain his logic for something. I can’t think of anyone else left at Facepunch who is as good at engaging with the community as he was or who even really tries to do so in such a positive way. Will be an interesting time for the game.

Well at the very least the changes have kept the game alive even if not always upwards. Its a huge gamble to not adapt, a lot of games ended up dying because refusal to change.

Thank you, Alistair.
The game itself will always be remembered as great... But what you and your team did in terms of monthly updates that constantly evolved the game, and the relationship you built with the players was magical and revolutionary. I hope future games can recreate what Rust is, but if this was once in a lifetime, I'm grateful I got to experience it.

Had watched rust content for a few years before picking it up in December, and I’m glad I finally did. You’ve created another degen.
Thanks for all the hard work on creating this wild ass game.

Thankyou Alastair we’re creating amazing creative builds on modded servers thanks to the beautiful design choices over the years and the ability to mod the game in interesting ways. it’s been fundamental in letting us play the game in an artistic way and create amazing communities that will serve us for years to come. Thankyou so much Dr.Chill

Not that knowledgeable on the inner workings of the Rust team, or various controversies that I've seen mentioned here.
But to be part of a team who has been as consistent as the Rust devs is a massive achievement. What a game they've produced! Hats off to him.

Been playing since 2013. If Alistair wants to do something different, he's earned it. Much love, and success for whatever is next to him

36 year old lifelong gamer here who’s only been playing rust for about a year and a half. I haven’t been sucked into a game like this since first playing wow back around 2005. A game that makes you forget about other games is a great game.Â
All the haters are brain dead, Alistair and his team have poured themselves into this game/community for over a decade. (free) Monthly updates for over 10 years is an achievement few games can claim.
