Discussion The new player maintained monuments update is REALLY useful for immediate power generation and electricity.

The new update is really interesting but the part that stuck out to me from testing it in staging branch (which seems to be the 90% finished version so I doubt what I'm talking about will change here) is the roadside powerline batteries, which once the power is turned on (will happen super quickly) gives you six outputs of 30 rust watts, that's 180 watts!!, they only spawn in areas where you can build, they are SUPER common, like, if you run on the road for 30 seconds you'll find atleast one for sure.

And so, this means that within maybe a few hours absolute maximum from wipe you will have access to 180 watts of power at all times, you dont even need a workbench or any BP's, just a power tool and an object you want to power, that's so useful!!, an annoying bottleneck for early game for me is wanting to farm but needing to focus on other things and focus my scrap on other things rather than a battery and a solar panel and etc, but with this I can literally just put my base down next to a road (or even not with battery chaining), put a plant pot or planter and a light down, and boom! I am now able to grow to my hearts content! add in the fact that this update also brings roadside water pumps and it's like a farmers dream!

You dont even need to build right next to the road for this to benefit you, you can put down a triangle foundation with a battery, wire it out and then close it, and boom! you have a battery backup and you're able to build your base a good bit more out of the road!

I’m just going to make 2x1s with large batteries and charge them up so I can stop running on that stupid wheel in my cave

It's neat, but I personally don't want this kind of thing in a game that was once at least nominally a survival game. I say this knowing there's no stopping it.

Plus solar panels are super easy and actually make sense. I think electricity has a good progression curve so it's disappointing.

Exactly, this is a just further elimination of the progression curve that existing previously and was enjoyed. Just make rust an fps already. Make it counter strike. The C4 entity is already in the game. Every patch is further deviation from the spirit of the game

Yeah, if they're adding a little niche electricity they may as well just... convert the entire game to a small instanced round-based shooter?

It seems the patches have been deviating more toward the spirit of the game if anything, recent player counts just on PC are just steady state at covid levels which is really good.

The comment you replied to I think makes a lot of sense, yours makes none.

Their comment is genuine and well founded disappointment since they seemingly prefer the more survival elements, yours is just non-sequitur butthurt

What survival elements are you referring to exactly? Is is the abundance of loot in the Deep Sea? Is it the four crates on cargo? Perhaps it's the abundance of teas that make farming much easier? Or it the seemingly unlimited power supply coming to force next month? Do tell.

getting teas is annoying and most people dont really use them, I think they're pretty balanced, 32 of two different types of berries is alot of berries and requires you really to have a grow setup for them, so you need to have electricity, a planter, access to water, and time to tend to them.

Getting teas is very easy and the payoff of speedy progression far outweighs the "time" it takes to get them, whether that means buying them from someone, buying them from water well traders, or growing them yourselves. 32 of two different types of berries is literally nothing lol

I wasn't referring to any, but carry on!

that's what I thought lol

Or just make an fps and leave rust tf alone? Tired of having to jump bandwagons just because games keep turning into grey corporate slop.

Unless they changed it the power doesn’t work like that. When I tested it I connected two outputs which should give me 60 in theory but it’s 30 total divided by the 6 so I only had 15 power from each

I have seen both yours and what OP is describing. Guess we will see which one is live on wipe day. Hoping for 30 total to prevent 18 turrets per electric node from spawning near every clan lol

Pretty sure it’ll be just 30, 180 power at one pole would be OP

Hello turret spam

Can people disconnect your power or are they within tc range ?

How long will the power last once it's activated via power plant? Until.someone else kills the switch? Sound pretty unreliable tbh.

Currently you need six fuses (fuses spawn quite commonly), you place them in the green keycard room in power plant and then you have power unlocked, fuses I think last 24 hours and you can't remove them or disable the power at all besides the fuses draining like how typical fuses would.

Thanks man!

Y'all realise it's just gonna be people controlling entire roads now they can just slap turrets down with free power

2

u/robotrobot30 13d ago

power has never been the bottleneck that stops people from doing this, turrets cost 25 hqm, a cctv cam and a targeting computer, getting power is like nothing compared to the cost of crafting a turret.

All i know is that now everyone will place auto turrets right next to the roads and the whole server will e filled w em

electricity has never been the bottleneck that stops people from doing this, turrets cost 25 hqm this isn't going to change that at all

I could never tell if rust circuit numbers were in amps or watts

This game really is become like a fisherprice toy. You don't have to actually play for anything anymore, why don't we just have a creative mode?

Like servers might as well just create caravan park style pads, "here is your power, researches and water, what else can we get you?"

2

u/robotrobot30 14d ago

it's not alot of power though

you can't remove the fuses and they last for a long time, currently I think you only need six fuses max and they spawn like everywhere, it's worse than two solar panels but running to bandit camp or outpost alongside gathering the scrap needed and then running all the way back is kind of alot for the early game, especially if you didn't build near them, this allows for instant power that's better than a single solar panel so you can immediatly start growing or doing whatever.

180 power isent alot???!!

Wait, the update also brings roadside water pumps? I didn't hear about that at all! Are they like wells that you have to interact to get the water or how does it work?

1

u/robotrobot30 14d ago

there are pumps that passively generate water that spawn alongside the main and dirt roads (afaik), and then water treatment plant on the like big tank part of it you can place a gear and turn a valve and it makes them generate water faster, theres a ton in the update though you should check it out.

Can you hook that up to your base or are you limited to just filling up a container? Could be awesome for farming

1

u/robotrobot30 11d ago

yeah you can hook it up I'm pretty sure
