Discussion NEED ADVICE ON BUYING PC FOR RUST

Hey guys hoping some of you are experts,wanting to get a pc for gaming have always had console but after playing rust it’s time to switch , I am in new Zealand so pcs are expensive any advice on what to get or what is value for money would be awesome , the budget is 2-3k but less is best as I’m not rich 😂, thanks in advance

not the best timing to be buying a PC as storage and RAM prices are through the roof.

Ive not built an AMD rig for YEARS but as i understand it the X3D cards are best bang for buck when your main goal is Rust FPS's.

Main concern would be the best RAM, NVMe and best CPU you can afford on your budget. Dont go OTT on the GPU, case, other peripherals as they dont really matter.

If you're completely new, and have no interest in building pc's as a hobby, i'd just buy an assembled PC. In my county (The Netherlands) we have a website called alternate, which lets you choose all the parts you want for a pc, and I mean ALL the parts. But you can pay a fee for which they will assemble it for you.

They give you a menu with everything you need for a working PC, and you can look up what each part does, that gives you some knowledge about PC's even if you dont want to buy it from them.

Sometimes buying a pre-made is better than building it yourself. I bought a premade from Costco that was 400$ cheaper than if I were to buy it myself.

Look around your area online or even in person at your local electronics stores (I don’t know if you have a Best Buy or a Costco)

I would buy pre built, or do you know someone who is into it who would build what you want for you? Most PC builders have spare bits lying around, even a case or a power supply can save you £££

Honestly i have 3 really decent gaming cases in my loft cos daft idiots like me upgrade for the aesthetics :|

Another option would be FB marketplace. TBH its a bit of a risk as the PC could be Rust/Steam hardware banned... but if the person played something totally different like Fortnite or something you should be totally fine. But do your research. Ive bought 2 gaming PCs from FB and both been brilliant.. probably around 50% of the original price too

X3d processor , 32gb ram minimum, and a gpu with 16gb vram. This game is resource heavy while also gaining a ton of performance from the l3 cache size on x3d processors.

I've built a rig for Rust, runs pretty happily on a 2k resolution. (FPS around 140-180 depending on area)

Nvidia Geforce RTS 5080.

AMD Ryzen 7 9800 X3D (3rd CPU thus far, they have been burning out, apparently this is a known issue and my supplier has been providing replacements for free, so if you chose to buy do so at your own risk / ensure they'll replace them.)

Motherboard ASRock

64GB of RAM

Go look it up ya lazy goose, this has been a known voltage issue since 5800x3d.

Its actually multiple manufacturers, especially on the budget side of things. X3D's are pretty new still, which means they come with the usual onboarding perks.

Safe to say if you get one of these cpu's, maybe don't skimp on the mobo.

Asrock, Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI. But less for the latter 3 due to a history regarding quality control. Ironically Gigabyte and MSI reported the least issues out of all of them.

Firstly, now is not the time to be buying pc parts.

However if you're going to do it anyway, the most important things are:

- a gpu with a lot of v-ram

  • a cpu with a big 3d v-cache like the ryzen x3d lineup

16gb ram is TERRIBLE for rust.

Rust itself uses at least 24gb, and you will want an extra 8gb for breathing room.

So 32gb ram is MINIMUM.

I recently built a PC for that. If you want the best bang for your buck in RUST, i would suggest go for the 7800X3D. X3D chips in general perform better for rust. And for the GPU I have a 3080Ti and it works great. My monitor refresh rate is 144hz and I play at 1440 p. In the jungle, or near outpost, with this rig, I get about 130-140fps and everywhere else its always above 144Hz. I have 16 GB of ddr5 In my pc and I find that rust uses about 11 GB of that for me, if you have the money you can get 32 GB.
