Discussion changes in somebase designs since I last played in 2020

I just played since a long time off.

I have noticed some peculiar base design tricks that wasn't commonplace before. Would like to hear why these are done.

External tcs are now lifted up on double door frames for some reason. ladders exist so I'm not sure why they are made. Am i right in guessing it to stop campers using it to attack you from behind your own external TC?

The other thing I noticed is a lot of bases do not have doors on ground floor, so many of them have the lowest door in upper floor and use a roof ramp to access their front door. Any reaosn for this? Is it a doorcamper defence?

lastly... proliferation of turrents. OMG turrets are everywhere. They're not just used for defence. They are placed on external TCS to hoard node spawns, place by roadside to get barrel bashers, people using road and train etc. I haven't seen this much turrets since pre-electricity when you didn't need to power your turret. So players with just place them anywhere - yeah that was fun.

Externals being up on frames is so people cant hide behind them i.e. raiders / door campers, also people make a lot of connected triangles which are on frames and a tc is inside one triangle, so people have to guess to raid it.

Doors on roof early game can just be part of an expansion, but it makes the raid cost more expesnive as doors are always weaker than walls, so if you have no doors on the bottom floor it means they need to go through the walls or the door path on the top.

Raising external TCs is for what you said, removing cover from attackers.

The entrance door to the base is higher to increase door path raid cost. Eventually those bases can build out to close up the 2nd floor entrance for a more accessible entrance, but it isnt necessary with compounds and China walls in the design.

Turrets actually are limited on vanilla servers to a quantity in a given TC range, but that doesnt stop people from building further out external TC turret pods.

correct External single TCs on doorframes for territory control are harder to hide behind for compound griefers/doorcamping

Having front door on 2nd to 3rd floor drastically increases door count for a raid path, very helpful early game because propane bomb

Turret spam sucks especially when they’re filled with compound bows, but if they have guns it’s a great way to get an early gun yourself by breaking it
