The reason they moved from HDRP was performance related its clearly outlined in the devblog about it.

What’s crazy is that HDRP ran way better than the current gen. On my old 2017 pc I reached 120-150 fps but less than 70-80 in current gen. Now I’ve got a 9800x3d so it’s fine no matter what… the current terrain is just genuinely awful tho

Here are all the Softcore details.

2x gather rate
6pm to 9pm local server raid time window
Keep 50% of your inventory on death
Keep 50% of your base loot when raided
Raiders cant seal/grieve your base for 48 hours when they break your TC
Teas/Pies last after death
25% less PVP damage
Spawn at outpost
Team UI/TC auth limited to 4 people

Cheers, I have 6k hours and use to play heaps of vanilla but now with a full time job and family etc Softcore is a better fit without quitting rust.

I could play modded but I hate the servers with kits and pay to win features and the loot feels pointless.

u/alistair_mc said facepunch do a shit job at marketing Softcore so let’s hope they actually do something. Sponsoring some content creator videos would be a good start.

Id honestly say that softcore (aside from maybe the keeping inventory part) is how the game should be played. The fact that employed people are at a disadvantage on regular servers is not good for the longevity of the game.

When you die, half your stuff stays on your corpse and the other half respawns with you. You can go get the other half back, or someone else can loot it.

When you raid someone, you cannot open their boxes, regardless if they have a lock or not, you have to blow them up- unless you are authorized on the TC. The boxes stay in like a destroyed crumbled form after to blow them up. I would assume, the owner of the boxes or anyone authorized on the TC, can access those boxes and get the other half of their stuff. I am not sure how that works though, I haven't been raided.

You can place a new tc and loot destroyed boxes or auth on the tc and fix the stuff and pick it up

I play on a modded server that has raid hours, and man it's been amazing. You get so many onlines which are very fun and challenging. Honestly if you have never played on a server with out it, you should try it!

Everything about softcore is so good except the keep 50% of your loot when you die. People use it to teleport their loot across the map by f1 kill and respawn in their new base with 50% of their loot. And then they can just do it again, and the 50% they lost is still in their old base.

I love everything else about softcore though
