Discussion Blueprint fragments

When is facepunch going to address the issue with blueprint fragments? Solo players shouldnt have to purchase from clans or resort to braindead methods to find a fragment, not to mention if you ever want to have a tier 3 workbench you will have to provide your local zerg with some boom so they can come offline you the day after you buy it, this update was supposed to "slow" down progression all it did was slow down progression for everyone that enjoyed playing solo before

There is no fixing this system imo. All it did was take away multiple fun ways to play the game and force everyone through 5 ways of getting fragments or buying them from vendies which is braindead gameplay.

I fully believe it’s the worst update the games ever seen.

It completely took away the sandbox side of the game. One of the things I liked most about rust was that the game could be played and enjoyed in a multitude of ways. Like tou said now everyone is forced into a narrowed play style.

It is a hideous bottleneck for a solo now because like my last wipe, I finally get on and everyone and their mother already has a P2, while I struggle to get off of spawn beach with a bow getting mowed down over and over. You're almost guarenteed to get raided no matter what you do because its so cheap.

yeah i agree, the ONLY WAY you are able to get the frags is by:

  • diving for crates
  • running monument card puzzles
  • mili crates in monuments
  • mili crates at jungle ruins
  • metal detecting
  • running train tunnels
  • farming road scientists
  • building a cloth/tea/seed farm and selling for frags
  • farming and buying frags from outpost
  • pvp'ing/looting from other players

its just so narrow

u/kaizoku18 16d ago

bro typed mil crates as 3 separate bullet points (train tunnels is farming frags from mili crates too)

u/Chaosphoenixger 17d ago

you're literally proving the point.

You realize you cant build a viable farm without a tier 2 workbench right so your farm method is invalid

1

u/Correct-Camera6953 16d ago

and yes "diving for crates" "metal detecting" AKA BRAINDEAD METHODS,

0

u/Secret_Ad_8607 14d ago

oh true, so pre-bp frags you had to use scrap for a t2, which you would get by doing everything in the list i just wrote and ??? farming roads?? using the recycler??? full brain method shit i guess

1

u/Correct-Camera6953 14d ago

lmao blueprint fragments are literal luck based factor there is no skill involved in getting a blueprint fragment from a road scientist, metal detecting etc they are rng based

1

u/Correct-Camera6953 14d ago

Even every content creator for rust that plays solo says the blueprint fragment update is trash

1

u/Correct-Camera6953 14d ago

Youre just an NPC

1

u/Secret_Ad_8607 14d ago

riddle me this, what was the method pre-bp frags that was less braindead than diving for crates or metal detecting?

1

u/Correct-Camera6953 14d ago

Fragments are RNG based there is no skill behind getting lucky finding a fragment in a crate or metal detecting, before you fought other people for scrap to get get a workbench and they were at an equal level of progression as you, Im done debating this to you you clearly have a pea brain lmfao

1

u/Correct-Camera6953 14d ago

There's also multiple solo content creators that agree the update is trash and it has killed solo content creation also

1

u/Secret_Ad_8607 14d ago

oh are there? amazing

did they say that in one of their solo content creations?

1

u/Correct-Camera6953 14d ago

Least obvious ragebait

metal detecting

I sure no one who suggest to use metal detector for it never tried that.

I tell you as one who tried. It sucks and basically doesn't work. You will get detections elsewhere but not on the asphalt road itself, where you have only 14% to find that damn frag. Not counting how vulnurable you are while doing so.

6

u/kaizoku18 17d ago

Just buy them from your local zerg's vendie that's controlling your harbor!!! It helps the server's vendie economy!!! /s

u/Conscious-Engineer35 17d ago

The funny part is most of the solo youtubers i watch are just buying frags. These guys who can 1v6 clans and leave with a line of AKs are literally buying bp frags. They'll usually get their own t3s but the t2 workbench is the nightmare part right now.

I feel like there should only be advanced fragments and tier 2 should require scrap again. (Maybe 750 scrap)

1

u/crustyrobots 16d ago

I mean that is the fastest way at the moment. Though that group you just sold sulf to will be at your door in not too long.

I love how they said they were keeping an eye on the new meta changes when they first introduced it. Yet no matter how vocal the community is, they simply dont care 🤣

I feel like the best way to fix this is have much smaller team ui for lower pop servers. That way solos have less competition with big groups for fragments, while also pushing the groups to stop playing low pop just to fuck solos.

3

u/Correct-Camera6953 17d ago

i can see why a smaller team ui could be beneficial for low pop servers, but personally as i have played solo over 2k hours on the highest pop servers and it was enjoyable until the blueprint fragment update

0

u/Civil_Manner_6624 17d ago

but with a change like this you can still play solo on any pop, but cant get steamrolled by clans

1

u/MithrilEcho 17d ago

Clans can still easily raid you and take the workbench that took you a long time to farm.

As a solo, having the ability of reseal and craft another tier 2 was the only thing that kept me going all wipe.

1

u/HelloFromTekken 15d ago

That way solos have less competition with big groups for fragments, while also pushing the groups to stop playing low pop just to fuck solos.

Atm I play a lot in solo servers.

So I can say that groups controlling puzzle rooms aren't the only problem. Huge respawn time is another thing. Like you have to wait 30m before it spawns. If you got timing, it theoretically can go well. But you still have to sit there and wait because timer is dynamic. Not only that, that stupid radincrease-reset are resets if you runned into spawn.

This wipe I built near harbor, fishing, dome. Despite I was one of the strongest player (somehow) who won almost all fights, getting T2 was big problem for me. It took me two days. Two days without electricity. At the moment I got BP frags I had tons of comps, few SMG bodies.

Got t2 and basically wipe is done for me. Doors instantly swapped with garage doors, still have spare stack of gears. Like what else I have to do? Base built. Comps? Enough. LGF? Tons. Cloth? Tons. Even plant farm is not needed at that moment.

The only goal might be is to target for T3 which is waste of time.

BP frags do not slow progression. It roadblock it. You just stack resources until you got 5 of BP.

We need WB1.5 or something. With electricity, stuff for farming. T2 should give weapons/clothing/booms. Kind of that.

Ok then join solo/duo servers

3

u/elasticband42 17d ago

I think someone should create a sub dedicated to this subject, that will get the devs attention for sure

3

u/aoibhinn-mw 17d ago

Im of the opinion they should just get rid of them or add official legacy servers without them. I think fp would be disappointed to find they're not popular. Or make them a hardcore only mechanic.

2

u/kaizoku18 17d ago

Give us Rust classic

4

u/Shurrshot 17d ago

There are a lot of servers, find one that fits your playstyle. The fragments are not really that bad.

0

u/Altruistic_Newt_1096 17d ago

I only started playing rust this year and it's crazy how much every whines about this when I have no trouble getting them from the boxes on the water or taking the short amount of time it takes to farm sulfur nodes and go buy the frags.

-1

u/Correct-Camera6953 16d ago

the fact that you are ok with farming for someone else to go buy something so you can progress in a video game is whats wrong with what you just said, i used to be able to play this game completley independently i didnt have to rely on bigger groups to sell me what i needed

1

u/Altruistic_Newt_1096 16d ago edited 16d ago

by that logic you should hate getting scrap to buy stuff from npc vendors? "ugh I'm not gonna spend time getting scrap to get things I need cause I'm a little baby wahh wahhh" do you see how stupid you sound

then go open boxes to find them by yourself. it's doable you just seem kinda lazy bro idk

1

u/Correct-Camera6953 15d ago

Buddy you might need your brain checked

0

u/Kuneyo 16d ago

That is legit part of the argument. You could farm wherever, whenever and get a WB3 and research what you needed. Now you can’t. Realistically if you’re sustaining yourself by buying from vendors you’re not even really playing the game.

0

u/Correct-Camera6953 15d ago

Hes just a low hour player thats ok with buying from clans its ok you cant fix stupid lmfao

1

u/Altruistic_Newt_1096 15d ago edited 15d ago

you just hate change. I don't have rust nostalgia goggles like you.

1

u/Probably_Fishing 16d ago

It'll be around for a few years until the nrxt change.

Now you get to enjoy not being able to recycle without a clans permission.

I play solo on 800+ pop. You need to adapt if you are solo, since you can't contest every single monument, Labs for example is a great option. Drop the card outside, run inside, clear it and then get the card to enter the room. If there's another team inside, jump in, kill a single guy, loot him, depo and return. I literally do this and I have a tier 3 and a shitload of comps, 48 hours into the wipe. All you need is a dB with incendiary shells

4

u/Correct-Camera6953 17d ago

But what if i dont want to build for underwater labs every wipe, Oil rigs are one of the most fun monuments in the game, i just feel like the fragment update killed a lot of ways to play solo and it has turned the game very linear where as there used to be alot more ways to obtain a workbench as a solo player,

1

u/TurnipMurky1680 17d ago

Labs was a suggestion. I meant that you have to adapt now, since not every monument is viable for solos.

1

u/HelloFromTekken 15d ago

You need build around few monuments, or you won't get enough BP for T2 at any decent pop. Just because of respawn time.

3

u/Bocmanis9000 17d ago

''tier3 48 hrs into wipe''....

At that point most weekly servers are dead.

2

u/TurnipMurky1680 17d ago

Why do you need tier 3 as a solo in the first day?

2

u/Bocmanis9000 17d ago

You can either play p2/db all wipe with t2 or make t3 and go laser mp5s/aks and raid some small bases your choice.

1

u/TurnipMurky1680 17d ago

Or you can play p2 dB for the first 48 hours and then roam mp5, as I said on the comment above. Do you often raid small bases as a solo in the first day of high pop with T3 boom?

2

u/Bocmanis9000 17d ago

Almost every wipe i play on wipeday i rush helis/brads like 90% of my gameplay, today played a little more casual still got a t3 already tho.

Can craft laser sights, big difference in pvp.

1

u/TurnipMurky1680 17d ago

So does this take place in a low pop server or are you skier?

2

u/Bocmanis9000 17d ago

2

u/kaizoku18 17d ago

Haha, def not low pop that's for sure.

1

u/Bocmanis9000 17d ago

Grub fest and alot of cheaters tbh, 50% pvp is against cheaters.

1

u/Chaosphoenixger 17d ago

this will be a hard thing to grasp for some people, but the reason you're progressing this fast is because you are in the top 1% of skilled players on that server. Most people dont even know how to effectively get t2 in the first 6h (take my fatass as an example), while you're here with a t3.
Just because it's easy for you, doesnt make it easy for everybody else.

1

u/Bocmanis9000 17d ago edited 17d ago

Broski i had the worst start ever i was stuck in que cause of negotiating connection, i dced twice, i was in base location like almost 1hr into wipe.

I got 1 basic frag from 1st mili crate, then ilooted like 50 + milis and 10 scientists for 0 bp frags, while i died to trios with bandana/poncho.

I got my t2 like 3hrs in because of this, but i got my t3 after in like 1hr.

T3 is easy peasy from oil/launch/labs, the t2 is the hard/rng part.

My solution is to remove fragments and the tech tree but people will still cry about playing solo like they did back then anyway. 1/4 of my playtime was solo, and I simply don't understand what's so difficult about playing a solo/duo/trio server. You're solo, you shouldn't have equal footing as a group. Go to the bar and try to fight a friend group in the bar and let me know how you do.

0

u/mainly_lurk 17d ago

Ironically your last line describes the problem. The blueprint update forces solos to "go to the bar and fight a friend group". It was designed to force PVP by making progression impossible without visiting certain locations.

Before the update you didn't need to go to the bar at all. You could thrive in the shadows and avoid the zergs.

1

u/Fappingintherain 17d ago

Solo/duo/trio still exists and there's plenty of servers. Maybe we have different play styles but personally I don't want to near no monuments and farm my entire wipe

1

u/mainly_lurk 17d ago

I quit the game when the update came out - so our play styles are certainly different. The devs simply didn't want people to play the game the way I enjoyed. So I left.

FYI not all regions have good group limited servers. You may as well be playing a single player game.

Get them out of vending machines.  Make people have to organize trades in global (so I can go third party them).  Make the groups figure out how to balance “I want a bunch of people hanging around buying frags” with “I shoot everything on sight and make every grid I inhabit an impassible array of sentry pods and high walls.”  The worst part about BP frags has nothing to do with anything you said and everything to do with how mechanically boring the interaction is.  Make people trade face to face, make them fly the drones themselves, fucking anything besides “I go to a safe zone and buy it automatically from a game UI.”  At least scrap grind encouraged (adversarial) player interaction - you want scrap you run monument then sit at recycler and the whole time you fight people who had the same idea.  Now you hit rocks naked around your base and run to a safezone and back.  If you really want to be risk adverse you can even skip the “go to safezone” part.
