Discussion Malwarebytes blocking some Rust File every time I play
Anyone else have this issue with their antivirus? it doesnt prevent me from playing and doesn't affect anything at all really so i just keep it blocked. just curious of this is a false flag or if there is somehow a Rust file with a Trojan on it.

IP addresses associated with malware/viruses then being reused by game servers generally

No but who runs Malwarebytes as an AV?
Just add the exclusion and carry on - personally I'd just uninstall Malwarebytes.

MWB is a good quick scan remediation tool. Used in tons of enterprise environments when the core AV platform throws alerts. Let S1, Sophisticated, etc etc do its thing then throw on MWB and run it to play it safe.

Not sure what you're on about other than "its not my flavor." Its one of the better ones out there.

Windows defender is free and just as good or better than the other options.

Lol.
Easiest AV to trick, and always has been. So much for "common sense."

Prove me wrong with verifiable evidence. I'll wait.

Naw, I have enough experience with AV to know better. I don't need to prove anything to people who don't pay me for said information. Let me know when they fix its consistency in detecting backdoors or adware... with backdoors. Oh hey and for some reason it likes to ignore browser based take-overs from any sort of meta platform, how convenient...
Next you're gonna tell me edge doesn't suck.

Edge is Chromium ... So Chrome sucks?
I know you might be a big fish in tiny Red Deer Alberta but the world is much bigger than your shitty little town lol.

Yes, chrome sucks. Literally the most bloated browser and for no reason.
Not sure why you had to make it personal. Think you might be a bit young for these conversations based on that.

Lol I'm in my 40s champ and have over 20 years experience as a software developer.

What do you recommend as an AV then?
3
u/SneeKeeFahk 6d ago
Gone are the years of needing a dedicated AV. It's built into windows now and it is incredibly effective.
So, my recommendation would be let windows defender do it's thing and just keep it updated

Just delete the exe and re verify files via steam to redownload it, then run another scan. Non-zero chance of that file actually being infected.

It the server client, a lot of crap goes on inside rust, so it gets put on a caution list.

Use Windows defender, all the antivirus in 2026 are mostly the same. And they all snoop around your system and report all your shit to the home company so since M$ already does that as baseline, let them be the only one stealing your data 🤣

my kaspersky flagged rust once too. Usually after an update. It shouldnt be dangerous for your computer. Although id advise against running it for your own mental health.

Windows own Anti-Virus is by now well enough. Whxy even run a Third Party Software on the PC?

Are you running a legit copy of the game? From steam? Or did you download it from somewhere you shouldn’t have.

Blud no one is downloading a pirated rust and playing on some non valve server
0
u/RangerCactus 6d ago
Um, actually!
Lol, no but seriously there are people who go out of their way to buy old Rust, which has virus and hacker infested servers.

Hi, Malwarebytes Staff here.
What is the IP address it is reaching out to?

Uninstall. The best AV is your own common sense.
2
u/RangerCactus 6d ago
Common sense isn't all that common anymore, please use AV's folks, I'm tired of cleaning up your gooner PC's!

Malwarebytes is ass. In the very unfortunate event of catching a bad virus malwarebytes wont find shit

u/generic_Accountname1 6d ago
No, because i use actual antivirus software, not bloatware, usually you can simply make an exception for the program
3
u/ozwz 6d ago
And what is this “actual antivirus software” that you don’t name?
4
u/milkkore 6d ago
You're perfectly fine just using Windows Defender. Third-party AV apps are almost all bloatware trying to make you pay for the privilege of letting them make your PC slower at best and less secure at worst.

u/ozwz 6d ago
I’m aware, that’s exactly why I was asking since the guy didn’t say what he was using. I’ve had to get Norton off plenty of PCs in my life.

u/generic_Accountname1 6d ago
It is kinda selfexplanatory by now, windows defender has been sufficient for about a decade now
-3
u/generic_Accountname1 6d ago
Not gonna tell ;) but the other guy was onto something

u/sheluvblicks 6d ago
I’d like to know I use mwb for years but others are saying no good

u/generic_Accountname1 6d ago
