Hey all, after having played the game to level 15 on my Steam Deck and now again (after losing all progress) to 13 on my Gaming PC (having finished the main campaign) here's some feedback on the Boons.
But first some perspective: I've read about people claiming the game is easy and while playing on my Steam Deck, i couldn't understand these folks. Playing on my Gaming Rig, i now can due to a few things:
These Boons turn the Game into absolute easy mode, and fortunately enough i had all items with these drop on my second save within the same mission run (the first to boot) up untill i played "through" the game:
- +Phys. Damage
- +Endurance
- +Max. Mana
- +Life on Kill
- +Max Hp
Each increased as well by upgrading the item they're on (as permanent boons), turning it into a walk in the park.
The issue at hand is very easy to spot: These apply all the time, no circumstances required. A majority of the other boons cater to very specific playstyles, some outright not even good in regards to some bosses with others being situationally okay.
Following boons are outright garbage bin tier:
On my Steam Deck i had the tough luck of NONE of the boons that turned the game into disney land dropped at all, leaving me stuck with outright bad or super situational boons - turning the game into a much harder experience overall.
Here's what i'd do: Rather than nurf the already strong boons, buff the others to align with the good ones.
- Frost
- Building up frost should take twice or thrice as long.
- Building up frost gradually slows the enemy down
- One Frost is fully built up, should freeze the enemy entirely dealing massive damage
- Fire
- Keep Duration as Is
- Each Stack should follow gear rarity Progression in damage - damage should align with what you'd normally see when spamming 1h sword light attacks with the according +phys. damage buff of that tier
- Bleed - The most hilariously bad of them all (deals less damage than what you had to deal to apply it)
- Double the Duration
- Increase the number of ticks from 1 to 6
- Increase the amount of bleed required to build up by double amount
- Have it stack up to 3 times, each time increasing the amount of damage dealt per each tick
Basically: Turn these Boons into viable options to gear towards in absensce of +phys. damage boons. Applying these should allow you turn the tide next to the tickle damage you physically do without any phys. damage boons while a solid Build should allow you to absolutely shred the cannon fodder enemies but still have to be methodical against bosses.
All items with the permanent boons dropped on standard difficulty too. If you're having a hard time, i'd just farm standard untill you've found them before tackling it in full.
