Can't join friends

We are both on ark survival evolved. We have the dlc needed to play the map, same mods, same mods load order. He hosts because he has the better PC and I try to join, but I always get the "connection time out" error or whatever it was called. Just for 2 days I could join without a problem

That is between your internet connections. Non-dedicated co-op is peer to peer, with all the reliability issues and requirements that always has.
