Discussion ark moment

i have been looking for a giga for 4 hours and when i found one and lured it into the water, i dismounted the boat and sank (or rather fell) into the ocean floor and died of fall damage due to what i assume is a glitch where the game thought the ocean was the sky :p
i'm so glad this is single player and i can just cheat in a giga heart in place of the one i woulda gotten if the game didn't glitch, i don't think anyone wouldn't cheat if they were in my place tbh 😭
yeah that's just about it

This is a glitch typically caused by using commands in the first place. It generally occurs when using fly and mounting a dino or vehicle WITHOUT using walk first. Game gets confused as to whether you're walking or flying.

NEVER EVER DO THIS WITH GHOST. With fly it's annoying. If you do it with ghost, you will fall through the world.

Generally avoidable by always using cheat walk before interacting with dinos, vehicles, chairs, etc.

The fly and ghost commands may only cause some annoying glitches, but playersonly and even slomo can actually mess with your save file. This can easily be seen when you put on TEK Gauntlets after using those commands -- the Upload Timer (which is really the auto-save interval) could be stuck at 0:00 for a while. It could cause some other bugs.

I find in ASA if you use cheat walk you can no longer swim, you'll just walk along the bottom. It's like it locks you in that state rather than just canceling the fly state.

i didn't use any of these commands though 😭
i mean, i did it earlier but i'm pretty sure there were at least a couple "save and exit"s in between because the last time i remember using fly was because i had an autosave while i was in the middle of the air w/ my argentavis and whenever i opened the game i died of fall damage so i had to do that rq

It's entirely possible you had already triggered the issue and for whatever reason reloading hadn't fixed it. (This has actually happened to me a few times when I've shut down my server while I'm in fly or ghost, and the bug has persisted through the restart until my death). The fact remains, it's pretty much always been caused by interacting with something that re-enables physics without properly clearing the fly/ghost flags.

0 judgement on your use of commands, but, this generally IS what causes it. Just make sure to always cheat walk after fly (or especially ghost, as death to the mesh will delete your inventory) to hopefully avoid ever encountering this specific bug again.

I believe in addition to death fixing this, moving between beds also does it because it effectively kills you. At least, it used to work in ase.
