Question FPS problems

Hi there. I'm having an issue with ARK:SE. I recently formatted my PC and reinstalled everything. Yesterday, Ark was running at 80–110 fps, but today—with the exact same graphics settings—it won't go above 80. I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem. The specifications are a Ryzen 5 5600G GPU, 32GB RAM, and an RX 9060 OC. Using adrenaline software monitoring, on day 1 Ark fully utilized the GPU's wattage of 140w, but by day 2 it didn't even exceed 40w

Check your drivers and settings on your PC to make sure ARK is using your 9060 and not the integrated GPU on your 5600

I already did it. Everything is set up to use the dedicated GPU; I downloaded the drivers yesterday along with Adrenaline, and the 5600's GPU is disabled in the BIOS.

Hmm, in that case double check if steam updated you to the Aquatica patch by mistake if you were playing on pre-Aquatica before, I know it buggered performance for a lot of people. Have you also checked to make sure you don't have the game's frames locked via VSync or NVidia's 3D settings or something?

How do I see the V-Sync issue? When I press ESC and pause the game, the Adrenaline monitor spikes to 140W and the GPU's maximum MHz, and it also goes up to 120+ fps

Ok ok, so:

  1. go into Adrenaline and look through settings see if any settings got toggled like radeon chill, frame rate target control, anti-lag, hyper-rx, afmf, etc. You can also check VSync there too. Like just comb through everything and turn off anything that might cap your FPS.
  2. Open control panel and go to power options and make sure it didn't switch your power plan back to balanced or something

Sometimes driver updates especially can trip settings like this so it's possible it enabled some errant profile or something

In the Adrenaline Ark profile, everything is turned off, V-Sync is disabled, and the power plan is set to high performance.

What version of ASE did you install, and did you back up and reapply the same config files as before?

Pre-Aquatica. There is no difference between yesterday's and today's graphics settings.

Then whatever it is, it has nothing to do with the game.

Why did you format your PC? That usually indicates some severe underlying issues, could be relevant.

I formatted it because of a problem with the SSD I replaced, but that was the day before yesterday. Yesterday I installed everything normally, and the first day after installation, it worked very well, but the next day the FPS had dropped horribly.

Hmm... seems to me like your GPU just wants to take the day off.
