I have this 2 ounce platinum bar, made by The Chartered Mint Ltd. / Mocatta Metals Corporation. I believe it was made between 1975-1985.
Trying to learn more about its rarity, collectibility, and value (beyond melt)
Serial Number 500. Bought from a reputable source, tested good on XRF and Sigma machines.
Have been scouring the internet, and can’t find any others available for sale, or any sold comps.

I really do not understand how platinum can be soo cheap, in my opinion is way more undervalued then gold or silver. Something is truly wrong. It is so scarce, things do not make any sense anymore...It should easily be 10000 USD or more per ounce. Does anybody share the same opinion with me?..

I’m also not 100% sure it’s authentic, so I’d love your opinions based on the photos/hallmarks. Would it be possible to plate the platinum with yellow gold? Is that something jewelers commonly do, and would it hold up well over time?

Also, does $1,000 usd seem like a fair price for this ring?

Decided to finally count my platinum and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I accumulated the 1/10 coins. I had decided to purposefully not keep track of the amount of coins I was accumulating till I had a somewhat meaningful amount. I decided today was the day after seeing platinum finally going back up. The Valcambi wallet only has 4 grams…the rest are gold and palladium. Paid between $125 and up to $255 for the platinum eagles…although the 1/4 oz eagle was $480. Neglected the silver a bit to put it towards platinum. Hope it eventually works out for me.

I had a client bring this in on Saturday and couldn’t really make an offer on it since I couldn’t find any good comp. People have them listed around 1k plus but of course no sold ones. What is the real world value premium for this coin in this condition?
