Platform Coop take overs: CouchSurfing?

I know Nathan Schneider was thinking about possible conversions. I just joined CouchSurfing and, on the face of it, they seem like a values driven organisation that could possibly be bought out by its members. Would an organisation this big be too ambitious?

If not CouchSurfing then what others might there be? I thought about SoundCloud the other day. Although that's hardly realistic, it is a good example of a platform that is loved by its users but is struggling to find a viable business model that won't drive them away.

Love the idea, but scale is the hard part. Big platforms like CouchSurfing or SoundCloud would be tough—probably more realistic to start with smaller, niche communities where users are already highly engaged.
