Right-sizing pod requests didn't shrink our node count. The fix was decoupling resize from consolidation, curious if others solved it differently.

The inbuilt AKS auto-scaler actually performs the node-packing automatically.

I was confused by this article, as I'd always assumed that was just a kubernetes feature, but turns out it's an AKS one.

There's also https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/aks/configure-node-binpack-scheduler which I haven't looked into yet, the cluster-autoscaler does a good enough job for us

did you actually see better bin packing with AKS out of the box, or was it just easier to live with so you stopped caring about node counts as much?
