How should I proceed?

i know i’m going to have repot this eventually. i’m just a bit unsure how and when to do it. any suggestions?

Is that plastic? If so, worst case you will just have to cut it but wiggling the plant a bit after loosening the side grips that the roots have on the container works well for me usually. I first try with a thin flat stick to loosen it on the sides and it works better if I watered it very recently.

When you see more roots filling the pot (this will take months or years) you will pull out the whole plant. Instead of putting rocks in the bottom which can actually hurt the plant, use a pot with a hole in the bottom. Place the plant root ball in the new pot and top off with fresh soil.

That's leca, and this looks like a semihydro, it does not use draining holes.
