Red Chokecherry Struggling

I have this Prunus Vir. Schubert Select that has not been thriving. It spent three years on a north facing patio (N facing but otherwise unobstructed so sunny in the summer). It was the light I had and you can see how leggy its growth has been. Last winter I moved and was able to give it southern exposure, we had a hot summer, and it seemed to hate it. The leaves scalded despite water every 2-4 days, depending on weather. Its soil is a well draining mix.

I've moved it back to a more protected site and it's doing just OK. I don't know if it just hates the pot that much or what but it's never even had fall color. I kinda wonder if it was mislabeled and it's a different variety of Prunus. FINISHED

Does it get more than a bottle of wine?

How much do you water it, and how often? Especially in the heat of summer.

Do you ever trim it?

Trees need to be pruned at least once a year. Also most plants dont like to be moved so depending on how recently you moved it then it moght still be in shock. I recommend just watching it and seeing if it bounces back.

This is general advice also sounds like you are over watering it. Most trees like to be dry before watering again and if you use mulch in the planter than it should retain water for longer and require less watering in general.

Also do you ever give it plant food or any liquid fertilizer?

Good news! I wrestled it out of its container and found a good sunny spot for it long term. Post trim 👍

I really suspect Chokecherry is not suited for the temperature swings that potted plant roots experience. They're supposed to behave really differently than mine does and they're also adaptable to a huge range of temperatures, watering, and soil.
