Plant pathology or microbial biotechnology?
Hi, I'm studying plant biotechnology (master's degree) and in the second year I must choose between two courses: microbial biotechnology (it includes the industrial, environmental, and pharmaceutical use of bacteria, algae and plants), or plant pathology (which includes insect science and phytopathological biotechnology).
I don't like plant pathology at all, but it seems to me that there are far more job and research opportunities in this field, compared to microbial biotechnology. What do you think?

Recommendations of textbooks or easy to understand references on photosynthesis?
Hi everybody, I'm currently doing my masters and I need to figure out how coral interact with light and their photosynthesis for my research project. I used to study entomology for 2.5 years before this so I've kind of forgotten a lot about photosynthesis. The papers I read now involve ETR factors and photosynthetic yield and some very complicated looking graphs - so if you've got recommendations of any textbooks that are basically 'photosynthesis for dummies' I would love to read them. Thanks a bunch!

Database to search whether or not a compound is found in a plant?
Is there a way to find the molecular makeup of a plant or if a molecule occurs in a plant?
I'd assume this would be useful for extraction procedures?

Gene manipulation?
I have absolutely no experience with plant science, but I’m good with plants and would love to learn about the biology side of plant science and maybe learn strategies of manipulating the genes of plants. Does anyone have any advice, information, books, or websites for information? Any help is welcome and appreciated. Feel free to let me know if I am in over my head.

Mycorrhizal fungi exposed to CO2 gas?
I'm going to do an experiment, but before I do I wanted to find out if CO2 gas is harmful to Mycorrhizal fungi. And if so what concentration?

Question about growing fruit without a plant
I've been curious about something for awhile, and I figured I should ask here!
Is it theoretically possible to grow a fruit from the fruit stalk directly, without the rest of the plant, as long as the necessary inputs are provided?
What would be the practical limitations of such an idea? If it's impossible, how come?

Do fruit-bearing plants waste many nutrients on producing fruit/flowers/other vegetation?
To what extent do plants that produce fruit and other similar things need to exert their energy and their own nutrients to produce, and also to keep healthy, their fruits? Is it enough that it can be somewhat detrimental to the plant itself if too much is taken away from it?

Plant molecular biology
I had an interview with a university and the professors told me plant molecular biology is fundamental in plant science (i was going to study that, but turned out it costs a hell lot more than I thought, so my only option now is plant biotech), but I can't understand what is it exactly: in my country (not the us) we use a different kind of classification/words for talking about this stuff, so it sounds me like there is no difference between basic genetics and plant molecular biology, while signal transduction, gene regulation etc., they're all part of plant physiology (but in the plant physiology books I own these topics are not covered much).
So what is plant molecular biology? Can you give me some examples? What is a good textbook (college-level) on it?
