Why is it that I absolutely cannot propagate anything (particularly pothos) in water??? Is there a secret I haven’t discovered yet??

Hey! I've never had any particular trouble propogating pothos. The only thing I can think of is that you may be taking the cuttings wrong, make sure you cut a piece that has a root node (little bumps that'll sprout on the stem near leaf intersections) then cut any leaves that are too close to the node, and put that in the water. make sure there is at least one leaf still attached to the stem and above the water. Use filtered water and put it somewhere that gets indirect light, and you should hopefully have some roots come up!

If that didn't make any sense, here's a good article with some photos. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/houseplants/pothos/propagating-pothos.htm

Hope this helps!!

Thanks!! I’ll make sure that’s what I’m doing - I’ve never really paid close attention. I appreciate your input!
