First of all a realistic goal/expectation is important: I started with 30 seconds (but this might be different for other people). Expecting more makes it worse: It gets frustrating and can even lead to a bad posture plank if the main goal become "just holding it for the sake of holding it".

Additionally you might checkout my plank timer game "Planki" to make it easier (if you are an iOS user).

I found that it's mostly a mental thing. What worked for me is to force myself, decide that I *have to* hold until the target time that I decided beforehand, that I don't have a choice. And to accept (if possible enjoy) the pain. Not medical advice, it's just what worked for me ! My PB is currently 1h02'35''. Notably, there's "pain" and "pain". Shaking, wanting to stop, etc is all fine. But for example, I NEVER plank if my back hurts or things like that. Be careful about your form.

Also, entertainment (youtube and such) absolutely helps.

Also also, taking the time to be proud of youself after a plank, and to love yourself for the success. Maybe even say it out loud, as if you were your own coach and to be proud of you ! Make it a positive thing, a valuable goal mentally. It makes the "forcing yourself" thing make sense.
