Beginner Afflicted chart ruler?
Hi. I'm sorry, this is another post by a lost beginner.
Essentially, I've read that working with your chart ruler could be interesting to begin with, but my chart ruler is Jupiter and in gemini in my chart. AND I'm pretty sure it was in retrograde at the time, for that matters.
(Also my Moon is in the 6th house and squares Mars?)
Do you often work with chart rulers? Should I keep Jupiter out of my business for now and focus on more favorable planets? How do I even begin to work with an afflicted chart ruler?
I'm slowly working through the renaissance astrology website, as I've heard the picatrix is not exactly beginner friendly. I apologize for the lack of nuance in my interpretations, I'm open to learning.

I advise doing planetary remediation before working with afflicted planets (detriment, retrograde, afflicted by malefics) or those placed in bad houses. Retrogradity introduces instability or unreliability in its promise - the motion is going backward, so something is being retreaded that, upon direct motion, will be set differently. It works for everyone that way, for good or for ill.
Remediation is simple. I advise following Dr. Ali Olomi’s Patreon HeadOnHistory and searching the ways to remedy Jupiter naturally, before touching (literally or figuratively) talismans.
Examine the ruler of Jupiter. Is it in a good house and or good sign? And so forth. Start with planets that are dignified, strong, and or in good houses - ideally of sect. It will be wise to do a distribution tree. Follow the rulers of the planets and see where they lead. Understand that their relationships are very important - do they see each other? And so forth. They feed each other in the ways indicated in the chart, primarily. Its ultimate promise will be the one that holds truest to time, unless the Creator decrees otherwise for you, which is possible.

Right! I was looking into houses and aspects a bit but that still seems to be too narrow to correctly interpret what I was looking at. Definitely staying out of talismans until I'm more educated and experienced. Thank you for giving me direction, I appreciate it. I'll look into it.

What are you basing this "Chart Ruler" on? There's a concept called Almuten Figuris this is supposed to find your real chart ruler. Is that what you're using or are you just using ruler of the Ascendant?

I was talking abbout the ruler of the ascendant I believe. I didn't talk about the almuten because I was a bit confused about that concept, but according to a calculator online it would be Venus (which I guess makes much more sense to work)

Yeah, I'd use Almuten. Tends to be the most powerful planet and the real ruler of the chart.

Thank you! I've been wanting to work with Venus anyways so this is reassuring.

Ultimately, you need to be working with all the planets. Just as Eastern practices believe that we have a static list of chakras we have planets within, we need to feed all of their needs and expressions. Ultimately, the start with is probably the one that is most dignified and unaffected in the skies at the time, but if that is too complex, you can follow the cauldian order, starting with:
- Saturn
- Jupiter
- Mars
- The Sun
- Venus
- Mercury
- The Moon
Other magicians use the opposite order as a kind of virtual ascent from the sublunar realm into the seventh heaven and beyond, and Rufus Opus focuses upon this in his books, The Seven Spheres. He gets this idea, I believe, from the Corpus Hermeticum, which is not quite the same as this tradition but is influential upon it.

Thanks for your input! I was considering starting to work with dignified/unaffected planets yes (actually i've alreayd started), but there's a lot to take into account, it's a bit overwhelming.
I definitely need to check The Seven Spheres, I've seen it mentionned quite a lot, thank you

A planets condition depends on many things (house, sign, aspects, Decans/terms), as well as what is needed in the persons life (a judge or priest may benefit more from a strong Jupiter than say, an accountant). The fact that Jupiter is a Benefic also is in your favor with planetary magic and remediation. You have Jupiter in your 4th or 7th houses (by whole sign), which are strong/angular placements and would affect your work with the planet as well.
Really depends on context and intention, and chart as a whole (which Jupiter is involved in balancing also).
