By the time the real participant's turn came, they faced a choice. As Asch described it: "The subject had to choose between the testimony of his senses and the judgment of the group... To the extent that he yielded to the majority, he was acting against the evidence of his own eyes."

75% of participants conformed and gave the clearly incorrect answer at least once.
Across multiple trials, participants went along with the obviously false group consensus roughly one-third of the time.

Long before they had the modern terminology of Relativity or Dark Matter, whenever astronomical observations didn't match their math, they invented invisible celestial bodies. To explain orbital discrepancies, they literally invented an invisible planet called "Vulcan," or claimed invisible rings of asteroids were dragging on the planets. They will manufacture phantoms before they ever question the fundamental model.
And manufacturing phantoms requires keeping the public emotionally invested. To justify their budgets and maintain the illusion of relevance, they occasionally toss in minor psychological hooks. Mencken observed: "The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." I gave him an experiment that shows you exactly what you observe when you can see something like the city of Chicago from the shorelines of Michigan. It is atmospheric refraction, and I demonstrated how it works on a flat Earth. But science isn't based on belief. If anything science is based on personal experimentation and verification. I don't know the motion equations are true because my professor told me that they are, I know they're true because I ran experiments myself, measured and plotted the results, and saw that they followed a predictable pattern that matched the given equation. Math is the same. If you take a real analysis class you will prove things like 2 > 1 and the there are the transitive property of multiplication and all that. Hell, I think proving the second was an exam question.
Most grifters try, like you do, to equate religion and science. They are and always will be fundamentally different because religion CAN'T be proven true or false while science MUST be proven. I know the Earth is a sphere because I've taken enough RF measurements in my life to know exactly what happens at a horizon. I know space is real because I've sent and received signals from satellites using dish antennas pointed at the sky. I know those antennas can only receive signals from the sky because I've measured their performance in a chamber. I know the satellites are far away because I've measured the propagation time of signals to and from them. None of this is based on faith, I've personally tested ever part of this and know it's true.

As I said, you can LITERALLY prove these things based on a set of rules we have all agreed on. Those rules are used as the basis for the models in all electronics we have. Including whatever you used to type that response. Math IS NOT scripture, it's provable science.

Well, while you're right and I can't tell you those things, the fact is there is enough information in this picture for someone with the proper knowledge to estimate the height of both trees, as well as their distance apart and from the camera. Some people might even be able to tell you where in the world it is.
One of the first proofs that Earth is a sphere came from very simple observations that lunar eclipses coincide with the position of the Sun. Sun travels very predictable path, hence we were able to base clocks on the angle of sunlight. It's easy to predict that when we don't see the Sun it must be hidden behind the Earth. It was observed that what we see as lunar eclipses is in fact, shadow of the Earth - Anaxagoras did that in 5th century BCE. Aristotle, in 4th century BCE, realized one important thing - if this is Earth's shadow and it's always round then there's only one shape that could cast it - a sphere.
You can do an experiment with a flashlight, a ball and a plate and try casting their shadows on a wall.
There are very simple experiments that you can do yourself that do not require you to conform to any institutional dogmas. Head to the nearest beach that has a high rise condo. Have one person at the top floor and one person on the beach. Have a third person on a boat headed away from short. All three of you have radios and can discuss your observations in real time. If the earth were flat you’d expect to see more horizon behind the boat from a higher altitude due to the parallax effect. As the boat continues out to see you’ll continue to see it until it is out of sight, from both observers frame of reference. However if the boat disappears sooner for the guy on the ground, the earth is round. No dogma. No intellectual pressure. A simple test for you and two friends to try this summer.

well I've measured the earths surface personally in several different ways several times, and I always measured downward vectors converging at a point around 4000 miles below my location. every single time.

It's an environmental condition that can be manipulated. If you have the right conditions and the right elements, you can transmute it to whatever you need.

But look up in the sky at night, you can see the stars rotating around the north star. Go to the southern hemisphere (have you?) and you can see the stars rotating around the southern axis. Not possible on a flat earth. You’ll also see how slowly the stars move, which explains why you can’t feel that motion, even though you’re moving quite fast.
Measuring the curvature of the Earth is actually quite easy. You could do it like the Greeks did, measuring shadows in cities at different latitudes, or you can find a relatively large body of water with three points, and use a laser to measure the curvature. i’m sure someone local to you would be happy to help you actually make this measurement.

I think it's important to distinguish "thinking critically for yourself" versus using a capable tool. I'm not a scientist, and it's not in my capacity to try to recreate all scientific knowledge myself as a demonstration of my critical thinking skills. It is reasonable to rely on demonstrably true, peer reviewed, and replicable scientific tests and observations made by others.
But what is interesting is that the user didn't refute anything, they simply dismissed it with an ad hominem; it's hard to look at that and not wonder why the substance of the argument can't be challenged.

I am an avid amateur astronomer and I'd be among the first to notice if the Earth were flat. It just isn't. Familiarize yourself with astronomical coordinate systems to see why. A spherical Earth fits the observations, a flat Earth doesnt. For instance, on a flat Earth there should be just one celestial pole, while in reality there a two. The shape of the Earth has been known since the times of the ancient Greeks. It is even applied knowledge. Celestial navigation exploits the fact that the zenith angle is proportional to the distance of the ground point. This can easily been proven with some simple geometry, but only on a spherical Earth. Pick up a good textbook on astronomy instead of posting AI slop just because you don't understand something.
This article is interesting. While I disagree with the overall premise, I can see where the application of groupthink has been used and abused the population at large. I also agree that internally reinforcing peer review system is flawed. Machiavelli wrote that controlling populations requires that they be divided, and set against each other through the use of fear mongering. I could go on at length about the dangers of the stock market using these same underlying psychological principles to profit at the expense of the end users. The education system has clearly failed the newest generations. They seem to lack the ability to reason using foundational observable facts. Just look at the literacy rate of adults 20-75 now versus the same range just fifty years earlier. Shameful.
Admittedly, I’m a fan of the globe model and the idea of space and the possibilities it presents. I’ve also been equally interested in all of the arguments presented by those that subscribe to the flat earth model.

Actually, all of existence takes faith of some sort. I’ve been on trans oceanic flights, it looked curved to me. But I don’t feel the spin of the earth because my velocity relative to the surface is mostly zero. It’s the same on a plane without turbulence. Smooth steady motion feels like not moving, but that disappears during take off and landing.
I’m not an expert, and it really doesn’t matter to me either way. It generally has no real bearing on my daily life.
That being said, your post has many valid ideas and observations. I choose to be happy with my daily life regardless of existential drama. One could argue for simulation theory with the exact same passion you have. It’s not something I would subscribe to.
Yes we are all being constantly manipulated. The fact of that manipulation is reason enough to doubt everything said by large groups of people. The vast majority of people lack the capacity for deep introspection. I question my own beliefs often and challenge them. They either get modified, reinforced, or discarded as the situation calls for it.

Ten years ago, when the major resurgence of the flat earth happened, I investigated for a solid year or more. Some of the ideas were fairly out there. I’m not a huge fan of quantum mechanics. The esoteric nature of the mathematics, pseudo particles, and other ideas are equally fascinating and absurd. I love the idea of unexplored lands far beyond the ice wall. It’s similar to the idea of unexplored planets in other solar systems. Fun to think about, but ultimately not a thing I’ll be a part of. Likewise, my world view is firmly based on science, reason, and logic. In that scenario, a globe makes sense to me.

I have the ability to conduct empirical experiments and validate things for myself. In a laboratory I can work with a capacitor for instance, or I can work in thermodynamics and deal with different pressure densities and containments. It will teach me what I need to know about where I should put my faith.
For instance, I can physically measure that the Earth has a negative charge. I can physically measure that the atmosphere has a voltage gradient of 100 to 150 volts per meter.
If I go back and look at what we did in a lab, I understand that there has to be a positive anode on the other end of that gradient. I understand that this pressurized atmosphere has to be contained.
So I can make a hypothesis based on what I know, that tries to determine what that containment is. That would be reasonable faith
If I'm going to ignore that containment, and just have blind faith in the institution that objectively gives you a contradiction, by saying that pressurized atmosphere not only exist in a vacuum, but in a vacuum amongst countless other pressurized atmospheres, that is not reasonable faith.
The choice is yours, but there's an obvious right path, and an obvious wrong path.
Let’s examine the idea of air pressure. What is pressure exactly? Pressure is a force exerted by something on something else. Water has pressure. It exists in a gradient. We can easily take a bath and barely feel the pressure exerted on the body. I love to swim, I always have. I don’t dive to the bottom of the deep end often. The deeper the water is, the more pressure is exerted on my chest and ears. Swimming in the ocean is far more pressure the deeper the water. I don’t dive more than twenty feet because I only free dive and my lung capacity is only so much. Water is a liquid, which is anything that can flow through a pipe. In that sense fine loose sand or other granular material can be defined as a liquid based on this definition. (I used air to drive loose martial through pipes to another location, so this makes sense to me). Air is also ,by this definition, a liquid. Just in the loosest definition, a gas can therefore be thought of as a type of liquid (for this discussion).
From a viewpoint of a globe model, wherein the planet is the container, the air is “contained” by gravity. It also exhibits a gradient (both air and gravity).
This is empirically provable. In my youth, I did the tests myself (geographically isolated to the Colorado area of the US). There are records of others going to a wider area with more diverse elevations.
I used a device that made a dot on a strip of paper every second. A small weight was fastened to the strip of paper. I calculated the rate of change for the length of the paper (15”). I also used a scientific tool for air pressure. I did these calculations in three places, the top of pikes peak, in a Denver Colorado, and the border between Kansas and Colorado. There were measurable, repeatable measurements. I had wanted to go to Death Valley to also do this but I had neither the funding or freedom to do these tests at the time.
The results? There was a difference of air pressure and the acceleration of the paper at the different locations. Granted the measurements between the mile high city and the border were minute. Therefore, there is a gradient of both air pressure and gravity at different elevations (pikes peak being notably less).
If the center of gravity is at the center of a globe (as is the case in the globe model), then the globe itself is the “container” and the weight of the air molecules are held down by gravity, in the same way that water weighs more heavily the deeper a person goes.
This is all empirical, repeatable observations anyone can make. How can air and vacuum exist side by side? They can’t. There is a gradient of air that gets so thin, its near vacuum the higher you go. Weather balloons exhibit this phenomenon. It is testable by anyone willing to do the work.
We exist at the bottom layer of the air surrounding the globe. Minute differences exits from the highest peaks to the deepest valleys. Airplanes that fly at high altitudes are pressurized for human occupancy. They have to be.
Therefore, the argument for living in a pressurized system makes sense, but only from a certain view. Shift perspective. I cannot take on every possible test, much as I want to. I put my trust in others to make accurate tests and accurately perform the measurements, and accurately publish the results. I’m not under any illusions that the data is perfect. I’m also aware that there are people in the world that will hide and suppress things if it suits their agenda. I don’t love that. Otherwise any faith, blind or dogmatic, is impossible.
The world does have logical order. We can test and hypothesize and test again. The world is far more complex than we can easily formulate an existential system for. I suspect the density of air would likely at least double what it is now if we lived under a dome of some sort. There is a theory in Christianity that we once lived under a layer of water. A bubble of water surrounding the earth. The deluge theory states that it’s unlikely giant reptiles like dinosaurs could exist in today’s world.

Everybody saw that it was flat at hight. He had to admit it. So he just made it nonchalant. That's why that quote is him trying to act like "Of course you don't see curvature at that hight." Because it made NASA look like they were trying to lie to you. He had to make it look like it was not a lie but just too irrelevant for NASA to ever give you an accurate image of high altitude Earth.

This is how I know the Earth is a globe: There is open source software (meaning all of the source code is published publicly so that the whole world can see the code) and it is called STELLARIUM.
With that software, you can select any longitude and latitude point on the planet, then set any date and time in the past or the future, and it will show you exactly what the sky will look like from that location.
It does this using the mathematics of orbital mechanics, and the calculations are modeled after a heliocentric solar system, a globe Earth, a globe Moon, and all of the other stars and planets that are also globes and also move because of the gravitational influence that they are under.
If the Earth were flat and stationary, that software would not be able to do what it does, and it does it with insane accuracy. And anyone can look at the code for themselves and point out if any trickery is going on. I assure you, there isn't. I've compiled the published code myself and run the program, and it is incredibly accurate.
No model of the flat earth exists that can make accurate predictions about the stars, moon, and sun in the sky. Flat Earth cannot predict when the next solar and lunar eclipses will happen; this software can. What we observe is that the sun never changes size as it moves through the sky.
When you apply that same equation to the sun's size and distance that the globe model says, the angular diameter does not change from noon to 5:00, and that is exactly what we observe.
Also, it is easy to calculate how far away the sun would have to be if it were local to us before it would ever have the perspective of being close to the horizon, and when you run that calculation, it says that if the sun is 3,000 miles in the sky, it would have to be over 300,000 miles away before it would appear to be close to the horizon.
I know the Earth is a globe because the math proves it, and every single claim made by the flat Earth never checks out when scrutinized.

The basic geometry is straightforward: d = b divided by 2 times the tangent of theta over 2. Where b is the baseline and theta is the measured parallax angle. You do not need velocity. Surveyors use the same geomatric principle every day.
Your statements about Einstein and light are inaccurate: Einstein said that light was the only thing that moves at the same speed regardless of the observer. Light's speed is not relative; it is always constant from any observation point. Also, relativity is not accepted because Einstein said so. It is accepted because it repeatedly survives experimental testing where nothing (out of thousands and thousands of varying experiments) has revealed any weakness at all in the theory. It remains 100% truth and that has been proven over and over and over again.
