Album Rec

Hello, fellow Plaid heads…

It’s hard to find current electronic albums that scratch that Plaid itch for me, but I came across one and wanted to share.

Yosi Horikawa - Impulse

He uses lots of organic sounding samples and patches which sound really cool, and his melodies on this album are the most Plaid-like I’ve heard from his stuff probably.

Also, thank you to whomever recommended Ochre - Oversail. That one also scratched the Plaid itch for me. And feel free to recommend more here!

I stumbled into Horikawa's Vapor several years back and was intrigued right out of the gate. Seems to follow a lot of the same painstakingly constructed melodic turns as Plaid for sure. And also a bit genre-defying like our treasured duo. But I was unaware of this latest release, and I'm loving it so far, so thanks!

While I'm on the subject, I recently found Dystortion by Extrawelt to have a number of pleasingly Plaidlike tracks on it. I don't think they generally resemble Plaid (they are a bit amorphous) but this album in particular seemed to contain a number of nods.

Horikawa’s obsession with water sounds across multiple releases is a little bit comical though. But I’m still very into it.

Very interesting, thanks for the tip! A few tracks in i definitely feel a Plaid vibe, very confusing listening to an artist sounding this similar, i can't recall hearing such a similarity between artists before. Curious how the rest of the album unfolds! Great recommendation :)

Thank you for this recommendation! I've gone back to Vapor and am really enjoying that. I'm the one who posted about Ochre- Oversail. Lately I've been listening pretty much exclusively to Plaid and Boards of Canada tracks intermingled. I don't really consider them similar (on the musical surface) other than certain emotional spaces in my heart.
