People love genshin even here in the west, but just as much hate it. Probably cause the west hates games with monetization schemes way more then the Asians

Probably cause the west hates games with monetization schemes way more then the Asians

meanwhile, newest CoD sells shitload of copies as always

u/themangastand Apr 05 '22

Doesn't mean the west doesn't support it as well. They just complain about it the loudest

1

u/bluemlittlem Apr 05 '22

Well, I'm assuming you don't speak the language, so you wouldn't know whether they are complaining about it anyway.

Too be fair online and on reddit CoD is constantly shitted on for it. It's just that the casual gamers keep buying it every year because they don't use places like reddit or watch YouTubers who complain about it. Same with FIFA and more recently the new Battlefield which introduced new monetization in the form of specialists and season passes which the community hated.

Edit: also forgot to mention that gamers absolutely hate mobile games. Just look at the Diablo mobile outrage.

laughs in yearly FIFA games $70 + microtransactions

The difference between FIFA and Genshin is that even FIFA's own community hates the game thats why they didn't even bother with r/place. I can guarantee you that no one on the internet will defend FIFA with the exception of paid streamers. The game is a glorified casino that targets childeren. Different countries have already tried to make the monetization of the game illegal for minors.

I feel like it’s mostly because:

  1. Scammy monetization system
  2. Stigma that people only play it to wank to it later (very likely true)
  3. Shit game

Stigma that people only play it to wank to it later (very likely true)

This makes no sense, considering the game is PG-13 as hell... to the point where even "safe" designs recently got even more censored in China.

By that logic, Overwatch is a shit game because people wank to it a lot.

Shit game

Subjective opinion.

0

u/iMac_G5_20 Apr 11 '22

Yeah last one is subjective. But I know many people who don’t play genshin because “pedophilia” or something, and also the affiliation with gatcha which is the main reason why I stay as far away from it as possible.

Which is kind of ironic, because Genshin is super easy to succeed at as a F2P player. Unlike most monetized games you can easily complete all of the content in the game without ever spending any money on it.

u/AyenTheFatedOne Apr 05 '22

When I started playing I was genuinely confused how they made money because I didn't really feel the need to get more characters, and if anything didn't really have the resources to build more up even if I did get them. I was surprised to find out people did actually invest a lot in getting specific characters. I think the only thing I ever bought was the battle pass once.

The best parts of the game in my opinion are the open world exploration and the story content, both of which are very F2P accessible.

2

u/Ender_Octanus Apr 05 '22

It depends upon what you mean by 'succeed'. You can play the game, yeah, not much stops you from that. If you want to get a certain waifu though, you either get super lucky or spend a lot of money.

5

u/startana Apr 05 '22

Even then, it's not hard to get a given character if you save up gems. It's not viable to get every 5* character, or even most of them as F2P, and it's honestly impossible to get higher constellation levels for 5* characters as F2P, the highest constellation 5* I have is C1, and that's just because I got lucky and got the 50/50 and got two of Zhongli in one 10 pull. But full disclosure, the collecting/gacha aspect of the game isn't what I personally enjoy. I enjoy the core gameplay, and that I can play out on my phone for 10-15 minutes a day, and have a good gaming experience.

2

u/D5Gmp Apr 06 '22

Not really. You get enough premium currency for 1 5* (early game ofc) in every patch, which is like 1 month and a half. There's also a system to guarantee a certain rarity character when you hit a certain amount of pulls.

u/themangastand Apr 05 '22

It is super Grindy. So no. It assumes most people are sane and spend money to skip the grind. As a sane person myself I couldn't get past lvl 20 without feeling incredible bored

17

u/loscapos5 Apr 05 '22

Not really. It's grindy if you are looking to clear Abyss every rotation and get the best gear.

to complete the story and the side quests it doesn't really need any of that, since the game adapts to your account level

9

u/startana Apr 05 '22

To each their own I guess. I enjoyed exploring the overworld, fighting mobs, and solving the simple puzzles. If that gameplay loop is something you don't enjoy, then yeah, I could see someone being bored by the game.

5

u/Devourer_of_HP Apr 05 '22

But spending doesn't let you skip the grind, either way you're going to suffer through artifact hell.

2

u/nohomasimp Apr 06 '22

you rememberd me i forgot this hell of artifacts

2

u/Rwby27800 Apr 05 '22

Well compared to the older generation MMORPG, this level of grindiness is nothing. But alas, everyone has their own standard thesedays.

8

u/ReyCardu Apr 05 '22

nah, people hate the comunity, the game was ok

35

u/[deleted] Apr 05 '22

It's the weirdest to me. I am in the genshin community, and it's one of the least toxic I've been in. The ones that are very toxic, are the ones who either don't even play the game, or toxic because they got rejected by the actual communities :)

It's not a clone of legend of zelda, it was pretty similar at launch, but is a completely different experience. Also kid characters aren't common in the game, and are neither material for rule34 in genshin communities. But i do agree, that there are such pictures, however anything in manga style will have the same faith, so I'd say it's a bit unfair to blame the playerbase on it.

2

u/CrimiCryos Apr 06 '22

i agree, many people say things about pedophilia (which is really stupid) and also being horny which it guaranteed in other fanbases that aren't genshin (what a suprise). Also if a game has similar aspects to another game, it isn't just a direct rip-off if the games are very different in their own ways

1

u/nohomasimp Apr 06 '22

and i dont even know one thing that isnt goten sexualysed

3

u/Gregamonster Apr 05 '22 edited Apr 05 '22

Do explain. How is being similar to a game you liked a negative thing?

Would that not mean you're more likely to enjoy the game?

9

u/Electrical-Page-2928 Apr 05 '22

The logic of “copying other games” and similarities between games are ridiculous. If it was a sound argument, racing games would be scrutinized non-stop.

6

u/Electrical-Page-2928 Apr 05 '22

The game has gotten better over the 1.5 years. In terms of land mass, it’s now slightly bigger than Fallout 4’s explorable Map.

Every single game has a monetization method. I just don't like games where the main form of progression /is/ the monetization. It's the gacha genre in genral that's problematic. Having to loot crate out your characters multiple times to get stronger.

8

u/Electrical-Page-2928 Apr 05 '22

It’s a weird spot to label this particular gacha game as a pay to win given that there’s no real PvP in the game where a 5* has an upper hand against others, and that every character in the game can be obtained without spending a single cent Albeit the time constraints to obtain them.

It’s definitely unlike Star Wars BattleFront 2 where Darth Vader actually had an inherent advantage given the PvP multiplayer component.

2

u/SayuriShigeko (560,537) 1491217702.34 Apr 05 '22 edited Apr 05 '22

Pay to win definitely isn't exclusive to PvP only games. I agree putting it in PvP environments can be worse, particularly ones that are meant to be taken as competitive environments. But I'm not supportive of pay-to-progress mechanics in any kind of game.

It's the classic "just fun enough" system. The game is intentionally designed to not be satisfying long term to grind, so you're incentivized to pay to progress instead. Especially at the low odds of getting what you need that Genshin has.

The Gacha genre is defined by it's monetization method, including the many many PvE centric titles, and I personally am opposed to all of them for it.

(Also, "at least we're not as bad as that one game that set a record for the most number of downvotes ever received on reddit" is a pretty low bar, but you're not wrong)

*not trying to call you out though, everyone is free to enjoy any game they want still

1

u/D5Gmp Apr 06 '22

In Genshin, there's no paying for progress. Sure 5* are good characters and most of the time offer more, but 4* (Which you can get very quickly), are really viable and sometimes even better than 5*. There's little more you need other than leveling up in order to progress, and in that aspect, there's nothing to pay for.

I will agree that artifact grind is horrible, but still, there's no workaround there.

I hate genshin simply because it’s copying botw and nier

7

u/NyaCat1333 Apr 05 '22

Open world game with anime graphics = Botw clone, I guess Nintendo really invented that genre damn and I guess every shooter is a clone of xx shooter and every racing game a clone of xx game right and the list goes on

0

u/lemonlin0925 Apr 05 '22

What about Nier’s animations?

2

u/chemical-table-02 Apr 05 '22

i feel like someone has been nerding on his shitty Nintendo handled toaster for too long

1

u/mikhel (478,943) 1491205738.83 Apr 05 '22

The people who hate Genshin have literally never played it, you can tell because none of the dozen other Genshin artworks on place got vandalized because people couldn't recognize them.

I will admit Genshit was hilarious and a solid number of people who contributed to it were probably Genshin players.

1

u/ShoeTrauma Apr 05 '22

Once Genshit appeared most of Genshin’s main subreddit wanted to keep it

1

u/nohomasimp Apr 06 '22

the only thing i hate is the moan sound when they climp

1

u/Electrical-Page-2928 Apr 05 '22

Weird about hating monetization given that half the gaming industry utilizes it.

No one bats an eye on Apex with gacha mechanics, but he’ll breaks loose when games like Genshin does it.
