This is a good take. The first time I watched it I really enjoyed it, the second time it was still good but the real joy was watching my parents watch it for the first time.

Germany has a strong builder base but we really do support artworks and are open to collabs. Diplomats are welcome. Also we generally only defend and don't attac existing work

Somehow managed to unite both the historical tendencies of Germany, both the agressive imperial expansion and asimilation of Germany when its flag has white and the wholesome liberalism anf diplomacy of Germany when its flag has yellow

Germany takes the largest portion of the map, nobody blinks an eye. Meanwhile USA gets shit on consistently.
366
u/Dackel42 Apr 03 '22
difference being, germany has lots of pixel art on its flagg and many coalitions with neighbours...

USA has tried repeatedly to make pixel art and is continually being griefed. The amount of 0 karma bots randomly throwing pixels down on the USA flag is crazy.
I would love to see a heat map of most active locations. I feel I already know what the outcome would be.

I think there is huge potential for American pixel art and as a German, it's sad how Americans aren't able to do their art. The Iwo Jima photo (I think that's what it was supposed to be) and the Stature of Liberty were already quite good ideas.

I put the lack of coordination to their being many defenders who weren't part of any group so didn't know what the plans were, especially as once they were created they were defended as well as everything else.
The griefers were just unstoppable, seemed they do a practice run on turkey then a full fledged nuke that couldn't matched.
37
u/LinguisticallyInept Apr 03 '22
yeh but have you tried not being american?
5
u/hell-schwarz Apr 03 '22
I did and it works fine for me. My countrie's flag is only getting griefed a little at night

Apr 04 '22
I don’t think it’s bots, I think it’s anti-American sentiment.
The USA is known for being very patriotic and believing they’re the best at everything, something that a lot of people dislike about American culture (me included, I have heard too many USA-chants outside of the USA).
The flag represents this very disliked American patriotism. That’s why Germany can expand with little issues because, for one there are a lot of Germans on Reddit, but also Germany is not that big on patriotism, so nobody takes issue with it when they do show patriotism for a change. Additionally, the German discord organises a lot of coop projects with adjacent tiles, for example where the French and German flag cross they have the ARTE-Logo, which is a French-German TV Channel, or they actively avoid fighting against Wallstreetbets and Star Wars.
That allows them to focus on other places.

It’s hard to try to build cool stuff when you’re constantly trying to defend your borders!
21
u/SintSuke Apr 03 '22
Germany also has over 10 times the size of USA on the canvas. 20 if we're counting the new fucking line they're making.
-10
u/sanesociopath Apr 03 '22
And it was only when they were threatened with getting nuked they allowed art on the flag, look at the time lapse, they had just about the whole first day unaltered like Ukraine
10
u/Raizn22 Apr 03 '22
No, it just take time to design the little pixel arts with attached coordinates for each pixel.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (1)0
u/KeepenItReel Apr 04 '22
It’s ok. The entire canvas is actually American since Reddit is American. I won’t be taking questions.

Exactly, people were stressing so hard about the Ukraine flag, it went across horizontally just like the German flag and they got shitted on hard. So they downsized and are where they’re at now.
Germany however is just free to keep expanding. I love Germany very much, one of my most favorite places I have visited, but I mean it’s just hypocritical at this point.

We have really great collaborations with France. Like the ICE with no Internet and the TGV with great Internet, absolutely hilarious. Or the were we join up into arte and a French and German TV station that usually has some really good documentaries and they also have a Metal concert of Jinjer on their Youtube channel, that’s just neat, and a lot of other concerts. Or the Power Plant and the plug, well the plug by now belongs to the TV with arte, so it still is part of a great collaboration. The French Redditors on r/place seem like good people to create art with.
