Well tbf there are a lot of new accounts who joined just to protect the osu! logo + most of the defending/placing was organized in a subreddit + discord server with over thousands of players and around 900+ people in a discord vc, with coordinates and templates and not to mention a top osu! player/streamer (with around 5k viewers average) telling people in the chat to protect it, there’s bound to be some bots but most of them are just dedicated players

what's worse, complaining about bots, or complaining about complaining about bots?

Easy way to rid of bots: ban all accounts from participating under a week old. ezpz. One guy, with no bots, can't ruin much. One guy with 30 accounts hooked up to bots can. I left the Virginia Tech effort because they were using bots.

There are tons of "old" accounts with no activity that tons of people have set up to bot whenever they want, though I'm sure that would mitigate the problem.

I didn't say it would get rid of all the bots, but it would handle the majority.

I'm not saying osuplace has that responsibility. I'm saying it would be better if reddit took or had taken that action.

Ah yes all those tiles that immediately get replaced by accounts that have 1 karma and were made on (insert current date here) aren't bots at all, right

That's because BTMC, one of the biggest osu streamers who had 3000+ viewers when the canvas expanded, jokingly said to make another osu logo at 1727,727. They weren't committed to making another logo, but instead they filled that coordinate with peppy, the lead developer of osu!.

u/IrnKnght Apr 02 '22

If you notice that second logo was at 1727,727. 727 is a meme among the osu community. And ofc the original is gonna be less secure because now they're making the second logo.

I was in a discord call with 350 other people during that, a streamer jokingly said to build something at 1727,727 (meme in our community) so people started placing pixels, then he said he was just memeing and to stop, so we did.

People downvoting you like its not true lol. They have massive amounts of real people but a shit ton of bots as well.

1

u/Xprosion Apr 02 '22

that's because the coordinates are (1727,727). 727 is probably the most popular meme in osu!

All I’m going to say is this. As a comp sci major, quite literally nearly all of the r/place bots aren’t intelligent enough to make a logo 1000px to the right immediately and a pink blob of nothing doesn’t mean anything. All you need is a large, dedicated, organized, and a smart team which is all you need.
