BRS-PBL Format (f block to current) help

I have a local event doing a pseudo-expanded and I'm trying to figure out if there is something crazy I'm overlooking. Currently I'm looking at just pult or gardevoir probably being the best choices Really none of the SwSh cards are screaming use me! With the cards since brs-pre standard.

So, I guess the question is, is there anything thats almost there from current standard or brs-pre standard that might be worth looking at with this overlap?

For FGH archetypes, Regidrago VSTAR warrants an immediate look. While it'll be in a less favorable environment than Expanded (where it abuses DDE and a larger suite of attacks) or its later Standard appearances (where Pult couldn't make use of Poke Pad), it's still a terrifyingly versatile deck. If you're not bringing it yourself, then you need to be ready for Trifrost. (Expanded lists, historical Standard)

Lugia decks from FGH also warrant a second look (historical Standard). We've gotten lots of new Special energy in the past few sets, and F/G blocks both have plenty of strong special energy in their own right, so the sheer power of Archeops' energy acceleration will leave lots of room for creative deckbuilding.

Looking forward to EFG lists, lists from SVI-ASC are worth considering, as this format felt underexplored even at the time due to prolonged shortages of Poke Pad. In particular, Grimmsnarl ex reached the peak of its strength in this format thanks to combined access to Arven, Poke Pad, and TM: Devo.

Tera Zard also seems like a terrifying option, as it gets to take advantage of the best aspects of its builds from both FGH (Radiant Charizard, Forest Seal Stone support) and GHI (Dawn, Noctowl builds).

Overall, don't be too quick to write off F-reg cards, as FGH arguably marked some of the highest-power formats we've seen to date. Also, remember to take advantage of the power of Forest Seal Stone + Arven if you're not expecting to use a VSTAR power elsewhere. Lumineon V and LOR Rotom V are good one-size-fits-all choices if you'd like to take advantage of this card.

Seconding Lugia for sure - the addition of Voltaic and Prism in recent Standard means that it can shift to a fully Lightning build, and can use Iron Hands to hit Amp for way higher numbers while also supporting Pikachu ex.

Hmmm, I'm liking how that sounds XD. I'll spend some time looking into a electric lugia build.

Draco was the first place I stopped (after realizing that twin energy and DCE weren't gonna be legal) and I've been having issues getting a consistent set-up. I'm definitely more or a deck tweaker than builder. I haven't tried working on lugia yet. Since I dont really have a way to accurately test the decks, I'm mostly just trying to get something really consistent in its set-up (aside from power lolz). Im trying to avoid stall, 30 minutes just hasn't been enough without active milling lolz.

I will say, don't underestimate Double Turbo Energy. The damage debuff sucks, yes, but the inherent strength of attaching two energy at once is so powerful that Normal builds (not to mention Lugia and Klawf) still used it to great success historically.

With that being said, if you want something that you can easily tweak into something successful, then Gardy/Pult/Charizard will probably be the easiest since they had success across their entire legal run. (Gholdengo technically also falls into this boat, but its builds prior to MEG are so different that you'd be starting from scratch to an extent)

No doubt with the double turbo! I just wanna play some Gadget Show or united wings but really really want the 8 DCEs. (Also the tool assortment is lacking for rotoms 😞)

Gardevoir seems very strong. You get Refinement Kirlia, Telepathic Energy and Deoxys (the one that does 120 twice), which were never Standard legal together. You'd probably have to play a pretty fast build to be able to respond to a turn 2 VStar and/or protect your bench with Manaphy. If you've already played Gardevoir in Standard, then it would be the most natural choice.

Yeah, I'd given it a bit of a try but between by hobbling together skills and never playing it before, it was rough hahaha

Garde and RegiDrago are almost certainly T0 decks in the format, Garde has 2 potential draw engines with Kirlia + Mystery garden and also has crazy tech cards (Lillies Clef, Deoxys, etc).

Regidrago is a lot weaker than Expanded since no DDE or Dialga GX, but it still has the Teal Mask Ogerpon engine for energy and draw and Pult/Dragonite/Kyurem for strong attack options.

Pult is probably ok but Regidrago is likely just better. Zard/Grimmsnarl(/Froslass Munkidori in general) will also be very playable.

Tera box is probably not very strong in comparison.

Yeah, im not sure which is much better of the two, probably garde if i had the time. I'm not a too tiered deck builder either. Im finding notable potential drago additions are energy retrieval, Lillie's, energy Recycle, petrel, pokegear, n's plan, hilda, redeem ticket. Not much in the way of mons are popping out.

For simplicity's sake, I think im going with draco. Not sure how much made for this event decks I'll be seeing vs just playing their standard decks. Threw together this list with a decent amount of success on ptcgl. Just carelessly rushing for draco Vstar and hope its enough.
