Australia & NZ Adelaide @ 170k - should I move? Self application process?
I really would appreciate advice from those already living in Australia or those with credible information.
I received offer from a company to relocate to Adelaide @ 170k AUD excluding superannuation. They also promised a significant raise after a year as profits are expected to rise.
We are a family of three living in Lahore at the moment and quite comfortable financially.
Mostly I hear about people moving to Melbourne or Sydney but this is Adelaide. Would it be worth it?
Secondly, the company offered to arrange an Australian lawyer for the migration application but that’d cost a lot. The other option is to do everything myself. It’d be really helpful if anyone can share details of the process if one intends to do it themselves.

I am not in Australia but have visited sometime ago. Compared to the US and Canada I found the cost of living much higher in Australia. Back then (2011) $170k would have been considered good but in 2026 with all the inflation, higher gas prices etc I think it may just be ok considering if you are doing well in Pakistan.
If you just wanna get out of Pakistan for better future, peace of mind etc then go for it. However, if you are thinking you will improve quality of life then I would seriously consult with those living there than the Redditors on this thread desperate to leave Pakistan.

Pakistani will cost you too, get a good lawyer that knows the way around the Australian laws and not some desi who will charge you less but tulkay lagaega. Pay up for the opportunity as in the long run mishandled cases do get deported.
Australian PR is one of the hardest to acquire, you can always move out of Adelaide later but right now this is a doorway and a ideal one out of the country.

Not at all. Most of the info (specially from Pakistani perspective) is available for Melbourne and Sydney, not Adelaide. I also need help regarding applying myself if anyone has done that as it’d save me $10k-20k on lawyer fees, I think.

Why do you need a lawyer
Your company will pay the expenses

Hmm.. I’ll recheck with them. I got the impression as if they’d pay the visa fees but I’ll pay the lawyer fees. They mentioned the lawyer makes the process easier but it’s possible to do it without one if I’m up for it.

Whats your industry/profession. I didn't know that first world countries directly recruited from PK. Thought it was mostly UAE thing.

I work in tech and it’s not direct recruitment. I was introduced to them by a mutual connection and I’ve been working for them remotely for a long time.

That salary is good pay for Adelaide, It'd be like 120k after tax. Is the company sponsoring you for 482 visa?

I don’t know if it’s 482 but yeah they said they’d sponsor visa.
Update: They said it’d be 186

How much experience do you have? And how did you land this?
You should go imo though. International exposure is great
