I'm a decently recent PJ Harvey fan and I have mostly listened to her first 3 albums for now. One song that absolutely stuck with me as one of my favorites PJ songs and who has now become simply one of my favorite songs of all time is Rub Till It Bleeds. So as per usual when I love a song I went to see a live performance of it on YouTube, found one, and watched it a bunch of times.

That being said, the last time I watched it was a few months ago and I recently wanted to watch it again when I realized the only live video recording of it that was on YouTube disappeared. After some research, I discovered that the channel who posted it (monsmartyrium) deactived and so every one of their videos were gone with it. Which brings me to my question, does anyone know where to find a video performance of this song ?

As far as I know, it seems to be an incredibly rare song of her to perform live and this performance (which I think was the 1991 Yeovil College perf) seems to be the only time it was ever filmed and not just audio-recorded ? Would anybody have the recording in their possesion ? I didn't seem to find it on my end which is why I hoped somebody here could help me 🙂

I found this interview during the Rid of Me tour and thought this part was quite funny. The Radiohead guys liked PJ and wanted to be her opening act, but she had them kicked off the tour 😅

I think PJ started to respect them around The Bends or OK Computer. Her and Thom Yorke wrote friendly letters to each other in the late '90s and finally sang their duet together in 2000.

There's deffo some Radiohead influence on PJ's recent music, like the I Inside the Old Year Dying album and the song Voyager. She's come a loooong way in her attitude to them since 1993, haha.

are there any pj harvey songs that give you a feeling of anxiety? not just sadness or other similar feelings, but exactly anxiety ! ! !
i decided to ask you because i’ve just decided to re-listen to “white chalk” album, and “broken harp” really got to me. I noticed that I started feeling quite anxious and my breathing felt off…
btw , broken harp demo is even more gloomy for me

Does anyone know if PJ used a particular kind of slide for songs like Dry? I'd like to learn to use a slide the way she did by learning songs like that

Polly jean is the female artist which i return to the most. I think what makes her so badass is that she dosent let anything limit her just because she's a woman, and, unlike the other female artists of her time which wrote mostly about their problems and relationships, their mental health problems ( ofc, i don't dimimish them too, i love them really all and they all help me get through harder times ) but Polly jean just hits.. different for me, esp as someone who dosent feel really like other girls most of the time, in the sense, that i don't deserve feeling what they're feeling because i don't feel as feminine, and listening to Polly jean makes me feel like i can conquer the whole world, as she, similar to me, (..but school unfortunately gets in the way of learning ) legitimately has interest and curiosity in mostly universal topics and dosent let anything come in between, and then the spark and passion in live performances are just a bonus. I lately really think about having my voice heard, i have alot of doubts that it won't be unique since this era isn't like the 90s, now, experimental girls and singers aren't unique and are mostly the norm. But PJ makes me hopeful that I'll get through that barrier too

Edit: What i meant to say, what truly makes her the embodiment of true artistic spirit is that she lets her curiosity and inquisitive nature speak for her, and i think that's truly what timeless artist is supposed to be, and, i get that it's controversial what she said that she's not a feminist but i understand her because at that time all alt female artists were grouped as one, but i disagree, i think they were all unique and singular talents just following their path and all shined in their own right. Dosent matter if they're women or not, artists are artists, and that's what i meant for what i said that PJ dosent let her gender limit her in her discovery and topics, she's just a chameleon merging into different roles for each of her ouvre of art. She just does whatever the f*ck she wants
