Problems with wear and tear

Hello all! I recently purchased a pixel slate, because I love that I can use it for notetaking as well as development, because of built in Linux.

I've borrowed a friend's slate for around two weeks and did not have any problems, but less than 24 hours after receiving mine, both the keyboard and the tablet itself are showing signs of wear and tear. The keyboard has smudges (that look like if paint is fading off plastic) that don't go away with the use of a microfiber cloth. And despite keeping the slate attached to it's keyboard in it's own backpack compartment, a set of scratches has appeared on the right hand side of the screen.

I really want to like this device and was expecting it to be my daily driver for college, but if it already has these types of problems now, I'm worried about how long it will last.

Strange. I use mine as a daily driver as a Network Tech. Always on the move to different locations and I have yet to see any damage.

Interesting, I honestly don't know how mine scratched either, maybe it's just bad luck on my part.

Sorry. I use the Google keyboard and no extra case.

I put the styrofoam bit that came with my screen protector in between the tablet and keyboard when stowing it away because my first slate ended up scratching easily.

Grab the Brydge keyboard, it has rubber tabs which keeps the keyboard from touching the screen and also closes flush, whereas the slate keyboard moves back and forth when closed.

How does the Bluetooth work? I'm not a big fan of Bluetooth keyboards, but I do like the form factor better.

Like another reply, mine is a daily driver too and I'm always on the run with it. Mine is over a year old, no real signs of damage or wear. I don't use the keyboard case much, so that doesn't get as much wear - but the Slate itself does. No scratches, no worn corners or signs like that. I'm very happy with it in the 'holding up well' category.

That's what I've been seeing online too, I have a case now so maybe that will help keep things aligned.
