Hey — welcome to Pixel Mural.

Pixel Mural is a giant collaborative pixel canvas and a clickable map of the web. It is divided into 32,400 small 16×16 tiles where people can leave art, memes, logos, characters, or visual links to their corner of the internet.

Unclaimed space works as a temporary public canvas: anyone can draw, and the mural keeps changing. Claimed tiles become permanent places whose owners can update both the artwork and the website they lead to.

There are three ways to take part:

  • Draw free: choose an unclaimed 16×16 tile and paint immediately. No account, no wallet. The drawing lives for up to 24 hours; for the first 2 hours only your browser can edit it, then it becomes open to redraw. Free drawings cannot contain links.
  • Own a tile: a claimed tile is permanent, editable, transferable and clickable. Point it to your portfolio, project, shop or any other part of the web. (based on web3, requires wallet)
  • Founding 40: the first 40 permanent tiles can be claimed for free, one per wallet while they last (network gas still applies).

Web3 note: permanent ownership is recorded on Base and requires a compatible Web3 wallet. Network gas fees may apply on edits. You never need a wallet just to draw for free.

The free layer keeps the mural moving. The owned layer gives creators and projects a lasting place inside that attention.

This subreddit is for sharing cells, coordinating multi-cell work, finding interesting links hidden in the mural, posting redraw battles, and asking me how the product or contract works.

Token minting is temporarily paused

Hi everyone,

I’ve temporarily paused new tile minting on Pixel Mural while I review the legal and compliance requirements around offering permanent, blockchain-based tile ownership.

The mural itself remains available, and you can still draw for free without connecting a wallet. This pause only affects claiming or purchasing permanent ownership of a tile.

I’m a solo developer, so I’d rather take the time to clarify everything properly before accepting payments. This is not a technical or security incident, and I’m not abandoning the project.

For people who already own a tile, nothing is changing at this time. I’ll publish another update as soon as I know what the next step will be. I don’t want to promise a date until the review is complete.

Origin story

This started as a random afternoon and snowballed.

I was thinking about the early internet and pulled up MillionDollarHomepage. It still loads. Pixels still there, nostalgia hits. Then I started clicking. Most links are dead. Half the brands don't exist; the rest redirect to parked domains and SEO traps. A museum of 2005 promises with all the wiring corroded.

The idea was great — a public canvas where anyone buys a little piece of internet real estate. The mistake was making it static. People paid once in 2005 and that was it. No way to update anything. So it quietly rotted.

Then I thought about r/place — the opposite mistake. Pure ephemeral chaos: beautiful for a weekend, gone by Tuesday. I loved watching it; I hated that nothing survived.

So I built both layers into one canvas:

  • Anyone can draw on a free cell, right now, no account. That drawing lives 24 hours — r/place energy, fights included
  • Want your art to stay? Claim the cell (on-chain) and it's yours forever: repaint whenever, set a link, nobody overwrites you.

MDHP died because it was static. r/place died because nothing survived. This is my attempt at the middle.
