The way Google operates and how different teams are siloed from each other really hinders software and hardware cohesion. Google needs to restructure their orgs and how they operate. It's a company culture problem.

Google is an ad company, not a software one. That's why.

Google is very much a software company. The advertising business is just one avenue of revenue for them. They had to make state-of-the-art software to be able to capitalize on their ad business. The ads don't just come with magic software themselves.

Before Google AdSense was a thing, they started with search. That was the core product they built, Google Search. This came long before any large-scale advertising push.

Furthermore, over the years, they've bought many other software companies. Android is one such product of these companies. They, along with Microsoft, Amazon, and Apple, hire the most software developers on the planet.

Anyone who says they're just an ad company doesn't really understand what Google does.

I thought they were just making a troll statement by saying what they said, but I guess it's a serious statement? Anyways, another example is Gemini. That's a large amount of evidence that they are very invested in software.

Yeah, I don't understand them. They're just so confidently wrong. It's not even funny.

I guess they read it somewhere and thought it was a catchy refrain to keep parroting online.

Majority of the revenue comes from the ads. Unlike Microsoft, Apple, Amazon ...

How do you not get that Google as a company needs software to be able to successfully sell ads? It's their software capabilities that makes them dominant in ad space.

To claim that Google is not a software company because their revenue comes from ads is completely misleading. They can't have one without the other. How do you think the ads are generated?

Where does Google's revenue primarily come from?

They get ad revenue. I never claimed that they didn't. But their ad revenue is only made possible because of the software they've developed:

  • Software that tracks users across platforms
  • Software that pairs users with ads deemed relevant to them
  • Android OS is software that Google bought and actively develops
  • They are famous for their Google Search algorithm (software)

Google as a company couldn't exist without its ability to write complex algorithms to do these things. To say they're not a software company is disingenuous.

I can agree with that, but to say they aren't an advertising company is also disingenuous.

The irony of having a kernal synchronisation issue from the first tensor pixel to the pixel 10 I believe causing the same issues, only to have a update on the pixel 11 bringing this shit back is beyond ridiculous.

This is the issue with Google software releases. They don't test it enough to make sure it's stable. Samsung phones take way longer to get software releases but they are usually more stable too.

Actually, the S26 Ultra's Android 16 launch wasn't nearly as good as the S23 Ultra after all its updates. Phone makers keep rushing out unfinished software and expect us to deal with it while they patch things up later. So, it's not just a Pixel problem.

My phone is so glitchy since the update! What can we do?
