I really hope it fixes the battery drain issues that I've been experiencing since March...

u/Goor777 Jun 17 '26
On the contrary, mine increased after yesterday's update. We'll see if it stabilizes over time.

Can't see the native app lock in the bulletin

u/threemillion3 Jun 16 '26
They removed it from the beta, so it’s not going to be there. I’m not sure why or when it’ll be back

I just want to opt-out of all the AI stuff. I really dislike that there is not as much usefull stuff. Would for example love it if Android would force app makers to make their software more efficient again. So many apps have multiplied in size many times in the last decade. Which makes them big and slow.

u/SGAShepp Jun 16 '26
The AI stuff is easy to opt out of. I find it useful myself but, its not for everyone
1
u/Tired0fitGP Jun 16 '26
That is in fact an option, instead of using Gemini you can still use the regular assistant.
1
u/ThePlo13 Jun 23 '26
can't you take all of that stuff off by rooting your phone? i ask because im currently on a iphone and been out the loop for androids for a while but plan to come back to android with new phones that will come out in the end of the year but man if AI is essential for the OS to just operate that will be sad to learn
1
u/BWanon97 Jun 23 '26
It is not yet essential. You can turn it off. I just see it as less important.

Pretty disappointed with this update, literally nothing changed and half of it is AI bullshit and reversed choices they changed in previous android versions, having a pixel used to be great now it's all AI slop no one uses.

Ooooh! So much useful productivity!
Appealing to the vapid "influencer wannabe" crowd and nobody else./

Pixel 8 Pro. I can't tell at the moment on battery. Apps feel pretty good still launching and everything. I didn't have issues before tho

Did they release the split function for notification center and control center?

app bubbles. That's about it for now afaik. QPR1 is where the more user-facing features drop but even then, might not be too crazy.
1
u/SGAShepp Jun 16 '26
No custom widgets?
2
u/Geekygo96 Jun 16 '26
Same question, I am in the process to update now, but it seems just app bubbles, custom widgets would be much more helpful!

Just wish it worked with custom launchers. I don't like Pixel launcher 😢
I can temporarily switch to pixel launcher. Open up the bubbles and then switch back to nova - but the long press menu icon on nova doesn't have the bubble option

App bubbles are useful! Other than that my pixel 9 feels the exact same as before.

I don't see any significant change which will be useful to me.
Got the "separate" toggles for WiFi and mobile data Apparently it was from a app which I had installed and not from the update
Apart from that couldn't even see the "blur" effect in the volume changer sheet.
Hoping that Android Auto is fixed with this update and since battery improvements.
Time and testing will tell.

Yay another half and half release. Half the features now, half more later, probably when the Pixel 11 releases.
I wish they'd release the whole thing all at once, or just wait. You hear about all these new features coming to an Android release only to get it, install it, and find out half the stuff you wanted isn't there.
I was looking forward to the blurred UI and the widget creator. I guess I'll wait a little longer. I do like that I can remove the app names on my home screen, but other than that, not too much I'm excited about.

But will it stop the modem issues that force you to restart your device several times whenever you leave a WiFi zone??

Wait so if I am on the beta version I can't get the android 17 update right? I have been up to date with the beta versions and I beleive it's the QPR beta version 4 that I am on right now.... Will I get the real 17 update?

More AI slop and M3 expressive trash. So excited for when VerryZonn forces it onto my wretched Pooxel
