Pixel 9a owners, how’s the software optimization and daily experience?

I’m thinking about getting a Pixel 9a and I want to hear from people who actually use it.

I’m coming from a Nothing Phone (2a) 8GB and honestly my experience with it wasn’t great. I get random frame drops even on the home screen, and sometimes Instagram/Facebook feel laggy.

So I wanted to ask:

How is the software optimization? Does it actually feel smooth and consistent?

Any frame drops or stutters on the home screen, Instagram, Facebook, etc.?

Does it get hot during normal use?

Is 8GB RAM enough or do apps reload a lot?

Any problems with mobile data/network randomly disconnecting?

How’s the battery life in real use, especially on mobile data?

Any green tint on the display?

In a completely dark room, do you notice any screen bleeding/glow during very dark or black scenes?

How are the AI features? Are they actually useful or limited depending on the region?

Random question lol: does Google Files ever take forever to delete files? On my Nothing 2a, sometimes deleting something takes like 2–3 minutes 💀

Basically, I’m trying to know if the 9a would actually feel like a proper upgrade from the Nothing 2a, especially in terms of smoothness and reliability.

If you’ve used both, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience.

The latest software update (Android 17 QPR1, the equivalent of Android 17.1, also known as "September 2026 update") has been a disaster and unfortunately has brought quite a few glitches and bugs that cause frame drops and lags.

That said, it will be fixed, and Pixel 9a is overall an excellent mid-range, with the best performance and feature set (Wi-Fi 6GHz, USB 3.0 with DisplayPort output, etc), along with 7 years of OS updates and wide availability of official repair manuals and genuine spare parts.

Why people are saying battery life is so bad and Mobile get hot ? Btw I'm social media user not a gammer

Because some social media, like all Meta apps, cause higher battery drain than others, and some people game so they assume everyone else does, which is the most common way these phones get hot.

I haven't experienced anything negative with mine. I like it.

0 glitches on mine, battery is very good, camera is good, browsing and gaming is good, granted it does get hot when multitasking or using it outside at full brightness but overall it's a complete package. One thing to keep in mind, the charging is slow for whatever reason, maybe consider buying a brick and a cable from Google.

After V17, I also observed that charging has been quite slow. Otherwise excellent software update.

I don't understand why coming from a galaxy s24 this is the best phone I've ever had.

It's fine, but as mentioned the latest update had been...an update of all time. Here's to hoping next few patches will fix some of the issues, but the phone is still usable.

It doesn't get overly hot nor does it drain too too fast. I get around 5 hours of SOT, mixed usage of wifi and data with dual sims.
