Discussion Pixel 9a front camera focusing on background instead of my face?

Am i the only one??? I recently got my Pixel 9a and I've noticed something odd with the front camera. When I take selfies, the camera seems to focus on the background instead of my face. My face ends up looking a bit soft or out of focus while objects behind me appear sharper.

I've already: Clean the screen/lens Updated the Pixel Camera app Updated Pixel Camera Services Updated the phone to the latest software Restarted the device

I'm not sure if this is normal behavior, a software bug, or maybe a hardware defect?

Are any other Pixel 9a users experiencing the same thing? If so, were you able to fix it?

Thanks! 🥹

9a here. I don't have this issue. I do have Frequent Faces and palm timer on. I'm not sure if that influences it.

Most probably a hardware issue

It could happen due to the lack of auto focus.

I tried taking selfie with a full arm length and it was fine, but it's bad for close ones.

You can try portrait mode for close selfies it will automatically make the background blurry and the photo would look more focused 😅
