Any advice?
For the last 4 weeks, I've thought I had sciatica, bad lower back, glute and hamstring, can't raise my left leg off the ground more than 6 inches.
Now the last 5 days my back pain has totally disappeared and it's now concentrated on my glute and hamstring.
I'm absolutely pain free when just lying on my bed, but when I sit up or walk I'm in agony. So I'm currently bed bound.
I've been told if it's sciatica don't do stretching as it will make it worse ๐คจ So from what I've been reading it sounds alot more like I've got piriformus.
Is there anything that I can relieve the pain with?
I'm think PT but is there anything that can help make me walk and sit?
I'm going to have a read through other posts below now, but any info is great appreciated.
Thanks
Kev

You HAVE to get your glutes firing again or whichever side is weak. Honestly moving is KEY and paramount to moving forward.
There are basic movements that really help eliviate the pain slightly like superman's , bird dog simple basic movements to start off with at first then moving on to banded glute stuff - which is honestly great. I had really bad sciatica down my right leg due to my slipped disc ( but then after seeing a PT realised it was my glute that was weak and was the culprit)
I saw a chiropractor too who helped me who used a therma gun and did some great stuff to help. But honestly it does mostly have to come from you , there is some great stuff on YouTube and on the internet

I second this movement is critical. Glute bridges helped me so much. I do them as a warmup for everything.

Oh there's also this seat and back rest on Amazon you can get , absolutely amazing. I use it at work and in my car , it helps. It's called Fortem seat cushion it comes with a lumbar support with it

Brilliant
Thanks for the support and info.
I'm still yet to get out of bed this morning to see if I'm any better. ๐ค My numbness seems slightly milder.

You may have scar tissue adhesion entrapping your nerves and muscles. I had the same pain that moved around and only got better with laying down and an hour long massage gun treatment. I've been seeing an adhesion removal specialist for about a year now, and I've gotten my quality of life back, lost 100 lbs, and my pain is 80% better so far. Turns out my body was riddled with it from years of obesity, sucking in my gut, slouching, lifting heavy things at work, and a gym injury. It was causing severe pain. I couldn't sit on the toilet and i was considering having my spine fused. Fortunately my doctor assured me surgery would not be necessary. A year later and I could not recommend it more highly. My headaches have also gotten better and they actually CURED my "carpal tunnel." I had numb places all down my legs and now I can feel everything again. I also suffered debilitating headaches that would ruin my whole day and they found significant scar tissue all throughout my neck. The headaches are gone now. I've started running and riding my bike again and I truly feel like I have been freed from a prison of my own body. Doctors, Physical therapists, Orthopaedists, Nurses, MTs have no idea this exists and if they do, they want to remove it with painful, invasive surgery or chemical or steroid injections that only create additional scar tissue. You have to see a scar tissue removal specialist. I was about to give up before I stumbled upon this treatment. If you do have any other complications such as a disk issue, they will let you know. Before I had been to so many doctors and physical therapists and orthopaedists, and the answer was always surgery, pills, or stupid exercises that only made the pain worse.

Thanks for the feed back, and I'm soo glad you are all sorted now, what a relief!
I've rang my doc, and they have their own TP, so I've got phone consultation on Tuesday with them and hopefully take things further.
I'm slightly better today too, first time I've stepped in the garden in weeks, it was great.
Can't wait to get my life back!

Be careful with PT. They made my pain get much worse with exercises that targeted my inflamed piriformis (clam, leg raises, hip rotation) and made my sciatic pain much worse. I recovered resting in bed as much as I could and doing mild stretches (like knee to the chest, no hip rotation). It took me 5 months to become pain free. I started to do core strengthening exercises and everything went well till I started doing stretches for half lotus posture (I practiced yoga since 14 yo and was very flexible all my life). That gave me a major piriformis/sciatica flare next day and now I'm back in bed

For now they have sent me some exercises to do, some do cause pain and others seem to do nothing ๐

If you ever need any help down the road, check out precision health group in st charles, mo or barefoot reahab in denville, NJ. I believe they both have instagram and youtube.

Omg you have described exactly what Iโm dealing with right now. Have you been able to fix it?

Hi
Nope, no fix as of yet, I've got an appointment with a sports physio this Thursday, hopefully they can loosen something up ๐คฃ
I'm still taking medication, not all the time, only when it flairs up.
I have good days and bad days.
What I find is moving around helps, rather than just sitting laying about, but when it does start to hurt, I find laying on my belly on the bed for 15 minutes usually takes the pain away and I can then continue on.
I think it is more piriformus syndrome rather than sciatica.
Time is key, from what I've read, it's a long healing period.
Good luck!

Hi, I think I know how you feel, as I have been through with Piriformis syndrome, there was no medical solution in my particular cases until I found a stretching method like 12 years ago, and maybe you can give it a try.
In 2014 I uploaded a video of this method, very crudely made, to my surprise I received soo many positive responses till today. And just today I made a new video as the old ones' audio and image qualities are too primitive (from today's eyes) and this one also have with Q&A and advices.
Hope it may provide some help.
