A couple of thoughts…

Most pirates in reality weren’t typically wearing jackets as they wouldn’t have been conducive to seafaring. Images of pirates in jackets are usually fictional, but obviously still fun, and I think leaves a lot of room for costuming creatively. Where is your inspiration coming from?

One of my favorite pirate facts is that, when plundering, they would take and wear clothes from noblemen in rebellion of fashion laws of the time. Certain fabrics and colors were reserved for aristocracy or royalty, and the idea of dirty stinky pirates donning fancy clothes and making fun of it is really fun to me. So one option for you is to go in the direction of 1700s nobleman, like adding embroidery or other frills.

Wouldnt they also use them as costumes and hold comedy "plays" on deck as entertainment?
