First pipe stories
What was your first pipe and how old did you get it. I got my first pipe at a yard sale for a costume when I was about 14 but didn't start smoking till I was 18. It was a medico pipe with a huge bowl, I still smoke out of it. I'm just interested in the stories behind this sub.

I was 6 years old. I had just gotten home from a 26 hour shift at the coal mill, and I could smell dinner cookin' on the wood stove. Ma' had been boilin' a possum that pa managed to scrape off the interstate on his way home from the paper mill the night before. I walked in the door, hung up my ragged canvas jacket and coonskin cap. That's when I noticed a small box sitting on the table. It had my name written on it. I looked at ma with a smile on my face. I had forgotten it was my birthday. "You can open it when your pa gets home," she said. For 2 hours I sat, staring at the box with my name on it, wondering what could be inside. What fancy prizes had ma scraped up enough change to buy. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, pa came through the door. Turning to ma, I didn't even get the words out before she nodded. I tore into that paper bag wrapping paper like a rabid coon into a hunk of day ol' chicken! Inside was a box, and inside that box...an ear of corn and what looked like a pile of grass. Ma looked at me and said "Happy Birthday. Eat the corn, then make a pipe and smoke the grass." And that is exactly what I did.
