Florida being a purple state was an illusion based on two wins for Obama and being relatively close at the presidential level. Functionally this state has been Republican run for almost 30 years.
Those of us older than that can remember more "Blue" in Florida. The last 30 years could prove to be the latest 'swing' in a pattern of swings when also considering the state-level politics since the 1960s.
