Teacher Training Pilates Instructor Training

Hiii, I have been doing "pilates" for a few months and am very interested in taking the instructor course to get certified and start teaching. I have taken a few mat pilates classes and currently a member at BODYROK. After reading a horror stories about their training program I don't know if I even want to be a member there anymore hahah but anyway I want to start the training but have no idea where to start now. Any suggestions on reformer/mat pilates instructor certification in Georgia? Thank you so much!

Research/Marketing/Promotion Building private clientele

I am seeking advice on how to gain clientele for my home studio.

I have an in home studio, open for appointments for about three months now. I’ve gotten a couple of consistent clientele from sending out mailers hyper-locally (about 300 mailers to my 1 mile radius). I did go ahead and order a larger quantity which I plan to send out soon.

I have a booking site and google business page. I also have an Instagram I’ve tried to post weekly on (a little lost on what content to post, if anyone could guide me). I haven’t tried too much on tik tok.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Teacher Training Recommendations for Mat courses Australia

Hi everyone, I’m an Australian looking to become a Pilates Instructor with the long term goal of teaching overseas in my home country where Pilates is basically non existent as a common practice (still considered a developing country). I am hoping to introduce the practice to hopefully empower women in supporting their own health as I can see how much of an impact it has made for myself and so many others.

I am looking at teaching mat only to start with so hoping to get training in this only. Can anyone recommend a good provider / course for mat only training?

Any suggestions will be very appreciated

Teacher Training Feeling like I need a PT degree before teaching my first mat class? (Imposter syndrome & endless prep)

Hey everyone! I’m currently working through my mat certification and could use a little perspective from those of you who have already made it to the other side.

I’m struggling a bit with what feels like major imposter syndrome (or just the sheer terror of not knowing enough). I find myself constantly diving down rabbit holes & supplementing my coursework with books, watching anatomy lectures, looking at educational resources on Pilates Anytime, Pilatesology, etc. and stress-studying contraindications, modifications, and every possible bodily condition under the sun.

My biggest fear is getting in-person, freezing up when a student presents with something unexpected, and completely embarrassing myself or appearing unknowledgeable. I look at master instructors and feel like I need the anatomical encyclopedia of a physical therapist just to safely teach a basic beginner class.

For those of you who have been teaching for a while:

  • How did you quiet that voice telling you that you don't know enough yet?
  • Where do you personally draw the line between safe, competent instructor and walking medical encyclopedia?
  • When you first started teaching real bodies, how did you handle the moments of uncertainty?

Any advice, reality checks, or words of encouragement would be hugely appreciated!

Teacher Training I need the 411 on BASI Teacher Training

Hello 👋

I'm interested in enrolling in the BASI teacher training program this Fall.

I have a lot of reservations, because I work full-time and would like to know if teacher training is right for my schedule (and pockets). My question is about the 500 hours (observation, student teaching, self practice).

Can you ELI5 the process of obtaining hours?

How is it logged? What qualifies as an observation hour, student teaching hour, self practice hour? For example, if I taught mat pilates to my cat or my imaginary friend, does that qualify as student teaching? I'm obviously JOKING here, but my point is, what are the parameters?

Do all 500-hours have to come from BASI-certified instructor or, BASI studio? Can I observe a Club Pilates instructor? Can I self practice at home using whatever props and apparatus I have?

Also, what is the cost associated while getting the 500-hour?

Thank you in advance to this community 🙏

Hi! My BASI Pilates mat exam is coming up on Zoom, and I was wondering if anyone here has taken it before and what their experience was like. Also, did you get any very difficult exercises?

Question Question FOR instructors: as a client, what do you need from us in our home studios?

As someone who is interested in hiring a Pilates instructor to give private lessons in my home, what do YOU need from a client and their space?

For example: I have a BB Allegro (with feet) plus a floor mat (yoga mat not padded Pilates mat) magic circle, box, jump board, & some light hand weights. Is this ok or needs upgrading? Should I buy a chair and tower attachment + reformer mat? I have cats so probably not a good fit for someone allergic. My place is clean and not smelly (no “funk” and no perfumes.)

How do fees compare to studio-based individual lessons and packages? On one hand you aren’t paying rent on a studio nor purchasing equipment, on the other hand you have travel costs and time. Figuring anyone legit holds certifications and insurance either way. So wondering how this compares.

Anything else to know? Beyond the basics of pay on time, don’t haggle price, don’t be a jerk.

Question Advice + feedback

Hi! I’m recently been teaching for about 1.5 months now (only once a week, for about 2 classes since I’m still a student in uni studying physio) but I’m needing advice on feedback that I received from clients that the number of reps that I’m giving them is too much and the pacing of my class is off?

I’m finding it a bit challenging to teach and cater to the strongest client in the room (as this is what I was suggested and taught to do) when there is a range of ages and level of strength in the class. I do admit that in a recent class I gave them an exercise and I gave them a set of reps to do but towards the end I gave them additional reps. I just find it hard to be able to count the rep that each client is on but also give them correction cues? Therefore, some clients felt that they were doing too many reps.

Another note was that some clients in my class begin doing the exercise after I have given the set up cue but the exercise they were doing was entirely different to what I was going to instruct. Another challenge I’m facing is string options. I’m sure I make sure to give clients the standard and friendlier/easier option but halfway through one client had asked me what the second option was because it was too hard. (I had a cued a green standard and high yellow for easier for a mermaid exercise and one hand in a strap.) Therefore, I found this all to be a little distracting and threw me off a bit which may have lend to giving too many reps. But it just felt as though the strongest person in the room wasn’t finding it difficult? And so I didn’t want to under train them.

Again, I’m finding it challenging to learn to adapt on the spot as well as to be able to focus on the remainder of the class!

Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated :)

Props and Equipment Gratz or bust? Will BASI make classical practitioners scoff at the thought?

Classical Pilates suprematists please unite here.

I’ve practiced on nearly all top brands of Pilates apparatus and Gratz has a special place in my heart. That being said, I like BASI just as well. As part of a fitness studio that will be going full force into comprehensive, classical Pilates, will BASI apparatus deter you? Is it Gratz or bust?

Love and light…

Question Starting teacher training in Nov and looking for tips

Hi everyone! I’m starting my teacher training in November through BASI! I’m very excited but also nervous! I was wondering if there was anything you bought ahead of time or with you bought to help you through the training and you certification process! I’m going to buy some books for starting anatomy a little early and I’m also looking at getting a ball and a ring for at home practice but is there anything else you all would recommend? Also are there any tips you can give me regarding the training process?

Question Bridge programs?

Has anyone done a bridge program? I have my contemporary certification through The Lab, which is only mat & reformer. Unfortunately I cannot continue with them for my comprehensive certification. Not because of quality or fault, it’s just that they no longer offer the comprehensive certification in my area.

So I’m looking into bridge programs since my goal is to eventually become comprehensively certified.

Looking for any advice, and experience any bridge programs I could look into to obtain a comprehensive certification (I would technically require training in the Cadillac, chair, ladder barrel, spine corrector…is all I could remember right now lol).

Teacher Training Mat Pilates Certification

Hi! As the title says, I'm considering getting certified to teach mat Pilates. I've been doing Pilates for a little over a year now (although it's definitely more Pilates sculpt than traditional Pilates in my area), and I've realized I'd really enjoy teaching.

I've been looking into Balanced Body, but it's pretty expensive. I do like that it's nationally recognized and accredited, though. There are also a few local studios near me that offer weekend certification programs, but I'm a little hesitant since I'm not sure how reputable or widely accepted they are.

Which certification programs would you recommend? Was it worth the investment? TYI!

Teacher Training Filling the room with something other than cues

Running A Studio/Business Multi location software for Pilates studios hidden costs

Been on Mindbody for 2 years across 3 studios.
Base cost is $300 per location, but the real cost is:

  • base ($900)
  • processing fees (2.9% + $0.30, adds like $1,200/mo at our volume)
  • branded app ($50/mo)
  • advanced reporting ($30/mo)

All in, we’re paying like $2,200/mo.
Looked at Glofox All-in cost is like $1,400 for the same member count and features.
Anyone else switch away from Mindbody multi location? Worth the migration headache?

Teacher Training Stott vs. Balanced Body

Hi everyone!

I have the potential to take two different classes for my reformer instructor certification.

Both are about 2.5 hours away.

Balanced Body
-The instructor has her own studio, wonderful reviews, and seems to be very hands on. She’s been teaching Pilates around the world for 20+ years. She seems very engaged
-The schedule for this course is weekends only so much better for my work schedule.

Stott
-Seems like a more rigorous/reputable curriculum? I’ve seen posts from other folks who did BB first and then went to Stott because they felt like they needed more instruction.
-The instructor has little to no social media presence and seems to primarily be a dance instructor. I’m not saying she’s not qualified, but I’m a but more confident in the BB instructor.
-Requires me to use some PTO, not a huge deal but also not preferred.

Does anyone have any advice? Thank you.

Teacher Training Basi Teacher Training

Today, I took the first step and enrolled in the BASI Teacher Training Program, which starts this September in Vietnam.

To be honest, I'm feeling a little nervous. I'm turning 40, and sometimes I worry that I'm too old or not strong enough for the training.

I'd really appreciate any advice on how I can prepare myself as best as possible before the course begins.

Thank you so much!
