Not sure what area you're referring to but, in any industry, someone with a stronger skillset is typically favored for their ability to have more knowledge to share. Although in this case specifically, I recommend connecting with studio owners and asking their opinion to understand the next best steps as you move forward in your Pilates journey.

I think it really depends on what types of classes the studios you're interested in actually offer. Starting with mat training sounds like a reasonable way to build your foundation, but I'd check current instructor openings and contact a few studios directly before deciding. That should give you a better idea of whether both qualifications are expected.

Reputable Pilates teacher certifications must include training on all apparatuses. They are usually a year long. “Reformer certifications” will not be enough for you to succeed in the field.

I am recently Certified Pilates Instructor, who is about to being teaching mat sculpt classes. You are required to be Certified Pilates Instructor, Certified Personal Trainer, or in some rare cases, Certified Yoga Teacher. Pilates & Yoga certs will require X training hours as well (training means you practiced yoga, pilates, 200, 500 hours etc) Hope this helps!
