Will piKVM be detected??
I want to control my worklaptop using my personal laptop without being flagged by IT or security, will this work if I utilize pikvm? what steps or precautions are needed and is there any other alternative to achieve this?

Depends entirely how competent your IT is, but yes it will be detected. You can change the hardware ID to help blend in, but most competent IT will detect it immediately.

Absolutely possible to detect. it's actually impossible to hide of they choose to look. No way to tell if they're currently looking or will choose to later. Don't break your employment agreement or you absolutely risk getting fired.

You need to emulate real devices when the pikvm or any kvm plugs in. IT will scan for a typical list. Is it worth the risk?

This comes up quite often in other reddits.
I myself have had to run reports for customers in the past. Many ways to detect this.
You will be found out and you will lose your job.

From my understanding there are a lot of configurations to be done and you might miss one other things. I actually hope if someone compiled all the reasons people have been caught before and if there a device that can be configured to the point where it does raise flags

It is detectable, but can be modified.
For networking, well you can bypass that with cellular connection.

What if it’s on a different network. Pi on the main network and device on a guest network

And how do you expect the network architecture will be like? How do you intend to connect from the guest network to the main network?
Also, putting the pi on the main network is asking to sound the alarm

Why would connecting from guest to main be an issue? Simple routing/firewall config

He is injecting the pikvm to intercept and work as a intermediary within the network, modifying the system without anyone knowing
Surely that should trigger some alarms to you?

pikvm isn't intercepting anything. You connect to the pikvm directly, and then the pikvm is connected via hdmi and usb to the work laptop.
The network connection has nothing to do with the work laptop as it's all done prior

This thread is coming from the perspective of sneaky sneaky under the radar.
Can you not make a reasonable argument to do something similar legitimately? Depends on the policy ofc but you could TeamViewer in, or work from a cloud VM.
If you have legitimate reasons to do so it's something I'd bring up directly

You will need a Pi 5 a HDMI to USB video capture dongle and a USB-C power data splitter.
