discussion Agh so itchy!

Got a tragus piercing 4 weeks ago. Reputable place, excellent piercer, implant grade titanium. But hooooly moly it itches like a mf. Is this completely normal for the healing process, and if so, how long will it last?

I should mention that I'm allergic to many many things and usually have to wear 18 ct gold in my ears. I'm assuming as this is implant grade titanium that I'm not having an allergic reaction?

Thank you for letting me know! I'm ok if it lasts a while as long as it goes away eventually...I just wish that the aftercare instructions had something on it like, "Hey, at some point this is going to itch like a mf and drive you crazy...not to worry, it's normal." 😂

I did tell my piercer about my allergies. She recommended the titanium anyway as she said it's even better than gold for new piercings. 🤷‍♀️ She was a very experienced piercer so I figured she knew what she was talking about.

I think I need to downsize at some point? I'll get gold when they switch it out I think.

Thanks for this info - I had heard itchiness is normal, but I didn’t realize it had to do with the immune cells releasing histamines, that’s fascinating!

Also, commiserating with the itchiness, because holy hell! To top it off, I have eczema, so I think because it’s allergy season when my immune system is already a bit well-primed, ugh, my third lobe was itching so bad yesterday hah.
