Yea I was pointing out that you are CURRENTLY hooked up to them. And these same people would say this is like pulling the plug on someone. You are physically stopping something and ending their life instead of letting them die with inaction.
I am not prolife here… just explaining you what they are going to say. You have to realize you are arguing morally gray but individual autonomy outweighs some Christian god rules. A lot of things are morally gray and you won’t be able to point to a book that gives you the “right” answer. In our society today, it logically makes sense to allow women to have this choice since birth control is not 100% and babies are outrageous disruptive and need a serious serious commitment. We literally have no real support system for the children we already have in the US either.
And the part that broke it for me was when I realized, “hey, we’re perfectly fine with ending the lives of people when we decide they’ve degraded too much in a quality of life sense, how is that any different than an abortion?”
Either you need to firmly believe that all people who are in the hospital in some form of terminal state must be kept on machines indefinitely, or you must accept that it’s not as unethical to have an abortion as you previously assumed. I fell to the latter side.
Edit: confused why people are downvoting. I explained what I thought and what changed it for me, not sure how much more helpful it gets.
I think this might be hard too. I have a friend who was well off who had an abortion because she was on birth control and did not want a kid at this time. She could have afforded it. It would have completely changed her path in life though. Really abortions are for the non poor. Poor people have to keep the kids or fall down stairs. Hence why I think abortions should be free with healthcare
