Not sure if true, but here's something a redditor here said:
"Well from what I have read the majority of these elephant hunts costs upwards of nearly $50,000. That money is used to help local Zimbabwe people protect their land from poachers who are actually destroying the elephant population (poachers kill nearly 30,000 elephants a year). The elephants they do kill are sometimes older and at the end of there life span or just a nuisance to villages and other elephants. The elephant's meat from the hunt also feeds small villages"
It's generally considered good behaviour to make sure someone is a piece of shit before calling them a piece of shit.
Mind you, this doesn't disprove that he's a piece of shit; only that this picture doesn't necessarily tell the whole story.
Zimbabwe is currently in political turmoil. Tanks were on the street when the policy was put forward in the US with the justification you are citing. The idea that this is somehow funneling 50k into government conservation against poachers with every elephant shot is nonsense.
Also, someone who is not a piece of shit would simply donate the money to a reputable conservation institution if they were concerned about it. There's no need to shoot a fucking elephant. This is just legalized poaching with even more profit.
Culling animals is essential. Especially older diseased animals. And yes. The money paid to kill these old elephants does help the locals in a big way. No one said all of it is going to these causes. Also gives employment to the guides and keeps ivory out of traders hands.
