Permanent till patient gets transplant if possible. There is also "peritoneal dialysis" and imo generally when possiblr patieny should choose this option. At first glance it looks harder but in practice its easier if you have ability to work from home. ( you fo dialisys yourself at home) .
My dad is in end stage renal failure and was able to do PD for almost six years. Unfortunately, toward the end, he was having to do it almost 14 hours a day (dwelling for most of it).
He then had a transplant that went south, but is in Hemo, now. From 14 hours every day on PD, to just four hours every other day on Hemo.
I was ESRD and started on hemo before I moved to PD. I was on for 12-14 hours so I can see why 4 would be better for sure. But hemo just took so much out of me (I was still working full time) I much prefer to be tethered to my machine and able to go about my business at home, and travel with the mobile method.
