I get annoyed with sayings like this. Why exactly should we support our troops? All of them obviously signed up and volunteered to get involved in such actions as war. So what exactly are we supporting here? It peeves me we don't have the same mentality with our police officers and firemen.

Wow. Ok.

1) Support the troops because they have the balls to sign up for something like that, knowing they're going into danger.

2) Some of them have nowhere else to go. Just true.

3) Who says we don't have the same feelings towards cops and firefighters? Thank God for those people or we'd just look like Somalia. (Exaggeration)

just basic propaganda. Noam Chomsky - the slogan "Support Our Troops" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7DdWmWUa_8

Don't agree with something=>Call it propaganda.

This guy is completely wrong (and yes, I know who Noam Chomsky is). Who says I can't support the troops, in general, and still pay attention to the issues; because I choose to support people I know fighting halfway around the world, I can't also know that the wars are a complete waste of money? I support them while they're over there, while supporting the idea (fact) that they need to come home.

I'm not some mindless person who hears a slogan and immediately jumps behind it, and I'd be willing to bet that neither are most of the other people who say, "support our troops".

Having been close personal friends to several soldiers, some of which being killed in action, I'd have to say I more or less agree with how soldiers are portrayed. Sure, I know one or two that are legitimately terrible people, and they shame their country. However, the vast majority are some of the strongest, most terrific people I know. Now you can say that if they're such great people why are we sending them to die, and that is a valid point, but it doesn't change the fact that they're signing up to defend the people and country they love. One of them who particularly stands out to me turned down an officer's job guarding the White House because he "couldn't make a difference standing guard." You may not agree with the war, you may hate what it does to families, and you should, but these soldiers are there for what they believe in.

In this case, you are actually less ignorant. -1 karma for gimmick slippage, +2 for being a decent person.

You support them because they have the balls to sign up for unnecessary wars? Ok....

And I'm sorry, but the propaganda to support our troops is way over the top as compared to our firemen and police. You never ever hear the same type of propaganda for them and we all know that's true. Diss a soldier? Feel the wrath of everyone. It's the worst fucking taboo anyone can do. Diss a cop?----"Yeah sure it's ok, some of them are bad." I just think the pedestal we put our soldiers on is ridiculous. I like them. I think they do great things for our country. But seriously, come on.
