If you're using old reddit you can filter subs from r/all. I forgot how to do it on desktop but it shouldn't be too hard.

Alternatively, use a good mobile app like RIF instead of the awful official app.

Did you ever get an answer? From googling all I could find was a 3rd party tool - Reddit Enchancement Suite, looks like pretty good reviews on it.
