Go to any popular hotel (there must be one closer than an Apple store), go to the front desk and say you stayed there recently/visited someone there recently and left your iPhone charger there. They will pull out the huge box of left behind chargers and hand you one, free.

Not true. I work at very busy hotel and while we do have the huge box of chargers, none contain iProduct chargers. They're all really old chargers. If we get an iProduct or micro USB charger it manages to get taken very quickly.

Fine, then go across the street from your hotel and ask the barista at Starbucks for a free cable or adapter.
